Responsibilities
May install, dismantle, assemble or move machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings.
May operate several types of power construction equipment; may repair and maintain equipment in addition to other duties.
May lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
May hang steel supports from ceiling joints to hold pipes in place.
May cut and weld steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment.
May bolt aligned structural-steel members in position until they can be permanently riveted, bolted, or welded in place.
May build or assemble forms for concrete placement.
May place rebar in forms to reinforce poured concrete.
Smooth and finish concrete to ensure proper curing, integrity, safety and aesthetics.
May work at heights.
Qualifications
High school diploma preferred.
Completion of apprenticeship program required.
Requirements
Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
Follow instructions and read blueprints.
Work at heights without fears.
Use logical step-by-step procedures in work.
Plan work and solve problems.
Make decisions based on measurable information.
Perform a variety of duties that may change often.
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and in all types of weather and temperature conditions.
Manual dexterity, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Frequent climbing stairs/ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching and crouching.
