Position Description:
The Specialty Nuclear Welder is responsible for performing precision welding tasks on nuclear-grade components and systems in compliance with stringent safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This role requires expertise in specialized welding techniques, adherence to nuclear industry codes, and the ability to work in controlled environments to ensure the integrity and reliability of critical systems.

Essential Functions:

1. Perform welding operations on nuclear components using approved processes.
2. Interpret and follow blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications.
3. Ensure compliance with ASME Section III, as well as other nuclear industry standards.
4. Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections.
5. Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures and components.
6. Weld together metal components of products as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, or weld procedures.
7. Set up, operate, and maintain hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as gas metal arc welding equipment, plasma cutting equipment, and oxyacetylene torches.
8. Operates fabrication shop machinery and equipment including, but not limited to manual rigging and winches.

Physical Demands:
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Exposure to noise, grease, fumes, gases, electrical energy, and inclement weather conditions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education, Experience, Certification and Licenses:
1. Current member in good standing with UA or Boilermaker Union
2. High School Diploma or GED
3. Nuclear experience (preferred)
4. 5+ years of welding experience, with at least two years in nuclear or high-spec environments
5. Certification in multiple welding techniques (e.g. ASME or AWS)
6. Strong understanding of welding processes, metallurgy, and material properties.
7. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
8. Understanding of safety practices and procedures
9. Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility
