Field Engineer


Location: Onsite – Savannah River Site


Duration: Long Term


Overview:


Candidates must have prior experience in nuclear environments to be considered. Experience at Plant Vogtle or DOE sites under Bechtel and/or at other nuclear power plants is required; previous employment with Bechtel is strongly preferred.


We are seeking Field Engineers to support upcoming projects. You will provide specialized field engineering support in areas such as work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality assurance, technical inspections and testing, and subcontract coordination. Through your guidance and recommendations, you will help ensure that field operations are performed safely, completed on time, and fully compliant with quality standards and project specifications.



Major Responsibilities:


Specialization and Expertise


· Provides in-depth knowledge and expertise in a specific discipline, subject matter, or specialized process essential to construction projects.


· Delivers technical consultation and support to ongoing projects.


· Conducts field work, including walk-downs and data gathering for existing utility systems, facilities, structures, and components.


· Develops and supports innovative technical solutions to complex or unique problems, exercising creativity and independent judgment.


· Requires prior experience at a nuclear power plant or DOE site.


· Demonstrates strong understanding of modeling, drawing, and drafting principles, with the ability to apply symbols and notes accurately to reflect design intent.


· Proficient in reading, verifying, and marking up multi-discipline drawings, including gas, water, electric, and sanitary systems.


· Capable of working effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team, with minimal supervision.


· Possesses strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and effectively.


· Able to independently define technical objectives for assignments, even in the absence of established procedures.


· Proposes and implements changes to improve facility performance and operations.



Work Planning and Packaging


· Plans and prepares work package instructions.


· Conducts field walkdowns to identify hazards, analyze risks, and determine required controls.


· Facilitates package preparation by preparing and/or submitting welding/grinding permits, hold/witness points, and other required requests/approvals.


· Verifies that work instructions are adequate and fully comply with all applicable procedures.


· Prepares construction drawings and sketches as needed.


· Ensures preparation and completion of "as-built" drawings.


Material Management


· Initiates requisitions for field purchases.


· Prepares quantity takeoffs for field-purchased materials and equipment.


Safety / Quality Control


· Promotes and enforces a zero-accident culture by verifying that safety requirements are implemented and followed by all workers and visitors in operational areas, and that tools and equipment remain in safe condition and are used safely.
