Instrumentation & Controls Integration Lead - Fuel Plant
Work Location: Remote (as-need trips to Valar Atomics office and/or USREL site)
Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate's requested rate
Duration: 6 months+ with the possibility of going direct
Hours: Full Time / 40 hrs +
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced I&C Integration Lead to provide technical leadership and project management for instrumentation and controls integration at our client's fuel laboratory facility. This critical role combines hands-on technical expertise with project coordination responsibilities to ensure seamless integration of I&C systems supporting fuel plant operations.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
• Lead the design, implementation, and integration of instrumentation and control systems for fuel laboratory operations
• Develop and maintain I&C system architecture, specifications, and integration strategies
• Provide technical guidance on sensor selection, control system configuration, and data acquisition systems
• Ensure I&C systems meet nuclear industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance protocols
• Troubleshoot complex I&C issues and implement corrective actions
• Interface with process engineers, operations staff, and vendors to optimize system performance
Project Management
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate I&C integration activities across multiple systems and disciplines
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for I&C deliverables
• Facilitate communication between engineering teams, operations, quality assurance, and external vendors
• Track project milestones, deliverables, and technical documentation requirements
• Identify and mitigate risks related to I&C integration and system performance
• Lead commissioning and startup activities for new I&C systems
Documentation & Compliance
• Develop and maintain comprehensive I&C technical documentation including design specifications, test procedures, and as-built drawings
• Ensure compliance with 10 CFR Part 21, 10 CFR Part 70, and applicable NRC regulations
• Support configuration management and change control processes
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related technical discipline
• Minimum 7-10 years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably in nuclear fuel cycle facilities, nuclear power plants, or comparable regulated industries
• Demonstrated experience leading I&C integration projects from design through commissioning
• Strong understanding of PLC/DCS systems, SCADA platforms, and industrial control networks
• Knowledge of nuclear industry codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, ISA, NRC regulations)
• Proven project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple concurrent activities
• Excellent communication skills with ability to interface effectively across all organizational levels
Preferred Qualifications:
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
• Experience with nuclear fuel fabrication facilities or uranium enrichment operations
• Familiarity with 10 CFR Part 70 nuclear criticality safety requirements
• Knowledge of radiation monitoring systems and nuclear material accountability systems
• Experience with digital control system upgrades and legacy system modernization
