Job Title: Civil/Structural Engineer (Structural Design) – Contract

We are seeking a highly motivated Civil/Structural Engineer to support structural design efforts for Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. Reporting to the structural engineering team leadership, you will lead technical activities, apply structural design expertise, and perform analyses to evaluate concrete and steel structures under various conditions. The ideal candidate will provide effective technical mentorship to less experienced engineers.

Required Qualifications

B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
Minimum of 12 years of experience in structural design engineering with a B.S. degree, or 10+ years with an M.S. or Ph.D. degree with a demonstrated ability to produce a high-quality work product
In-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories in structural design
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in design and analysis of concrete and steel structures, including use of design software and finite element method analyses
Strong understanding of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1
Strong written and oral communication skills
High degree of trust and integrity, ability to communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork
Registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred
Experience with the following codes preferred: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690, Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual
Use of ANSYS is required
Computer programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, or Python) is not required, but preferred

Tasks:

Use structural engineering tools and implement appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc.)
Perform the work under the scope of company's quality assurance program and following the company's quality assurance requirements
Develop and review requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies following the company's governing policies and procedures
Serve as subject matter expert in civil structural design areas, capable of resolving technical issues and coordinating discussion with interdisciplinary stakeholders
Interface with licensing teams in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts
Provide guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of the team's technical activities
Deliver deliverables which are complete, correct, free from errors, omissions, faults or defects in design, workmanship and materials, in accordance with any performance guarantees, specifications and applicable laws

The client's technology is controlled for export by various agencies of the U.S. Government. Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
