Job Title: Principal Technical Advisor - Radiochemist
Duration: 1 year with possible extension(s)
Location: REMOTE
Short Summary about Job:
The Principal Technical Advisor - Radiochemist will provide expert leadership, oversight, and technical guidance to resolve complex issues related to radiochemistry and radiobioassay. This position will focus on method development, troubleshooting, and improvements in radiochemistry techniques, while mentoring and developing technical staff. The role requires establishing cost-effective technical solutions and leading multi-disciplinary teams on highly visible, business-sensitive projects.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in physical science (e.g., chemistry, physics, biology) or engineering (chemical, nuclear, electrical, mechanical) with 15-20 years' experience, preferably in nuclear-related assignments. An advanced degree (Master's or PhD/Doctorate) is preferable and would proportionally reduce years of experience required. PhD in radiochemistry is preferred.
Radiobioassay and Environmental Laboratory Expertise: Extensive expertise in radiochemical separation techniques including ion separation column technologies
Method Development: Proven expertise in new method development and improvements in radiochemical separation processes and quality improvements with peer journal examples
Radiobioassay Laboratory Experience: Experience in method development techniques, including fecal fusion techniques to reduce method turnaround times and radiochemistry-specific methods (Ra-226/228/I-129) for water samples
Technical Expertise: Radiological detection and measurements experience; data review, validation, and quality control of radiological datasets
Leadership: Leadership skills in mentoring other technical staff for development of technical skills
Technical Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of analytical chemistry, radiochemistry, non-destructive examination techniques, reactor physics, statistics, or plant operations; knowledge in experimental design and project management
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years
Extensive hands-on experience with computers and various types of software
Previous assignments in facility operations and maintenance, engineering, or business functions such as finance, operational and/or program/project planning/scheduling, information resources, or procurement operations
Substantive management experience in related fields
Miscellaneous/Additional Information:
Work Hours: Up to 40-hour work week. Various work schedules available including 5/8s (8 hours/day, five days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day, four days per week), and 9/80's (9 hours/day, five days on week A and four days on week B). Work week excludes holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch. Overtime may be required at times to meet deliverables at the discretion of the Manager.
Security Clearance: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Clearance is not required for this position (Uncleared).
Travel: Travel to the site may be required for onsite work with technical staff. Estimated funding for travel: $10,000/year. Travel cannot take place until approved by procurement via a fully funded requisition. Reimbursement for travel to conferences or trainings is not provided.
