Position Overview
The Principal Mechanical Process Design Engineer provides senior-level mechanical and process design engineering support for complex nuclear facilities. This role supports DOE nuclear programs through design development, advanced engineering analysis, and generation of high-quality technical deliverables while applying established site engineering processes and procedures. The position requires expert technical judgment, leadership capability, and experience resolving complex engineering challenges in a regulated nuclear environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide mechanical and process design engineering staff augmentation support.

Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, high-quality solutions to complex and occasionally unique engineering challenges.

Apply advanced mechanical and process engineering principles to resolve complex problems involving nuclear and process chemical systems.

Develop and generate engineering design output documents, including but not limited to:

Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)

System Descriptions

Mechanical Equipment Lists and Equipment Sizing

Pipe and Valve Specifications

Failure and Accident Analyses

Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

ASME Code design and evaluation

Pipe Stress Analysis

Material Handling, Fire Protection, and HVAC design

Vendor document reviews

Incorporate complex technical requirements, new or special materials, and advanced engineering practices into design solutions.

Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to less senior engineers.

Evaluate engineering results and prepare technical reports and recommendations.

Identify and recommend improvements when established technologies or methodologies are inadequate.

Prepare schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for assigned engineering tasks.

Monitor progress, expenditures, and quality of work performed.

Communicate technical objectives and results clearly to customers, colleagues, and management.

Support engineering activities using site-specific processes and procedures.

Maintain awareness of advancements in mechanical and process engineering technologies applicable to nuclear facilities.

Work Schedule
Standard work week up to 40 hours.

Available schedules may include 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s.

Overtime may be required to meet project deliverables.

Work week excludes site holidays; each workday includes a 30-minute lunch.
