Advisory Engineer – Chemical Engineer

Location: SRS, Aiken, SC (Onsite)
Schedule: Up to 40 hours per week
Telework: Possible 1 day per week at manager’s discretion
Estimated Pay Rate: $100/hour with full benefits package

Position Overview
Provides senior-level chemical engineering expertise supporting complex nuclear and process chemical systems. This role independently initiates and leads technical programs, resolves the most complex technical challenges, and influences technical direction across multiple engineering disciplines. Serves as a recognized technical authority and advisor supporting site mission objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Initiate and lead independent technical programs based on customer needs, regulatory requirements, and technology trends.
Develop solutions to the most complex chemical and nuclear process engineering problems.
Apply advanced engineering practices, including specialized materials, processes, and complex technical requirements.
Perform nuclear or process chemical hydrogen diffusion evaluations and calculations for facilities with nuclear material at risk.
Provide technical leadership and influence engineering direction across adjacent disciplines.
Conceive, plan, and sponsor technical programs for self and others within the department.
Develop schedules, budgets, and staffing plans for major technical tasks.
Monitor progress, expenditures, and quality of engineering work.
Support research, development, testing, and quality assurance activities.
Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and briefings.
Interface with management, project teams, DOE customers, and state and federal regulators.
Represent the organization in technical forums and professional organizations.
Mentor less senior engineers and technical staff.
Perform field walkdowns in active construction or operating environments as required.
Support continuous improvement and quality initiatives.
Required Education & Experience
Advanced degree with extensive experience, typically:
PhD with approximately 15 years of experience, or
MS with approximately 17 years of experience, or
BS with approximately 21 years of experience
Minimum 15 years of direct engineering experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
Demonstrated capability performing nuclear or process chemical hydrogen diffusion evaluations and calculations.
Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce well-organized technical documents.
Strong verbal communication skills for interaction with management, project teams, customers, and regulators.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to perform routine field walkdowns in construction or operating environments.
Knowledge of Conduct of Engineering requirements.
Experience with SmartPlant or similar work management systems.
Prior DOE site experience preferred.
Work Schedule & Conditions
Work schedules may include 5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s.
Overtime may be required to meet project deliverables.
Telework is at manager discretion and dependent on work assignments.
Security Requirements
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Active clearance not required at start.
Candidates who have held a DOE L or Q clearance within the past two years are preferred.
