Instrumentation Engineer Sr. (I&C / Instrumentation & Controls)

Position Summary
The Instrumentation Engineer Sr. serves as the Responsible Design Engineer (RDE) and Responsible Lead Engineer (RLE) for assigned instrumentation and controls (I&C) design changes. This role provides technical leadership and oversight of design deliverables while acting as the primary engineering interface between internal disciplines, vendors, and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate brings strong electrical and I&C knowledge, hands-on field experience, and prior exposure to nuclear or highly regulated design environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Technical Oversight
Serve as the Responsible Design Engineer and Lead Engineer for assigned instrumentation and control system design changes
Provide technical oversight and review of I&C drawings, calculations, specifications, and design documentation
Ensure design products meet applicable codes, standards, and engineering requirements
Coordination & Stakeholder Interface
Act as the primary engineering interface between:
Other engineering disciplines
Vendors and suppliers
Project stakeholders and plant personnel
Coordinate engineering activities to support project schedules and deliverables
Field Support & Testing
Perform and support site walkdowns
Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
Travel as required to support FAT, SAT, and project-related meetings
Project & Cost Support
Support development of project scope and cost estimates
Assist in managing mid-size to large-scale projects from an engineering deliverables perspective
Support issue resolution related to instrumentation design, installation, or field conditions
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
8+ years of related instrumentation or controls engineering experience
Solid electrical and instrumentation knowledge
Experience reading and reviewing electrical and controls drawings
Hands-on experience checking cables and wiring in the field
Experience supporting cost estimating and project scoping
Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Ability to build effective working relationships with plant staff, vendors, and project teams
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in nuclear power generation or regulated utility environments
Design experience supporting instrumentation and control systems
Experience working as a Lead or Responsible Design Engineer
Familiarity with plant modification processes, design change packages, and testing activities
Work Environment
Combination of office-based engineering work, plant walkdowns, and vendor facilities
Interaction with multidisciplinary engineering teams and plant operations
Emphasis on safety, design quality, and regulatory compliance
