[Construction Engineer] SENIOR CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER

Provide engineering support to superintendents and crafts, verifies materials, equipment, workmanship and assures results meet design requirements. Assure construction activities are executed in a safe manner with the highest quality standards possible while monitoring the cost and schedule of any given work activity.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Interface and coordinate all aspects of construction with design, procurement, security, safety, operations, health physics, quality control, scheduling, cost and management. Develop construction scope turnover packages and coordinate systems completion and test activities in support of the turnover schedule. Direct the preparation of work packages and familiarize craft in specific work package requirements. Maintain continuity with quality control to ensure work quality meets the requirements. Coordinate with design agencies to ensure timely issuance of new design or design changes. Lead constructability program in area and provide technical expertise for construction methods and practices. Responsible to ensure that construction work is done correctly and completely. Provide technical and programmatic direction to subordinate construction engineering personnel as required. Provide construction testing and start-up services for construction projects. Administer assigned subcontracts. Provide for nonconformance report and corrective action request dispositioning. Design temporary construction facilities as requested by managers. Assist in establishing maintenance requirements for all permanent plant equipment. Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment and workmanship comply with contract documents.
Provide construction engineering services in support of fabrication, installation and maintenance performed by the SRNS Construction Department. Primary responsibilities include performing walk downs, constructability review of design documents, material take off, development of construction work execution plans and permits, performing job hazards analysis, oversight and inspection of ongoing construction work execution activities, interfacing with quality personnel, design engineers and construction management to coordinate work execution and to resolve field installation issues or problems, review and closure of work execution documentation.
Construction engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.

Education and Experience
Must be a US Citizen
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and at least 5 - 7 years of practical experience in construction engineering or related areas.
Associate's degree and 7 - 9 years of practical experience would be considered equivalent.
High school diploma and 10 - 14 years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent. A general knowledge of system testing and operations is helpful to ensure system turnover scope is adequate in regard to pre-operational testing. Leadership training in methods improvement is desirable.
Candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform construction work planning, job hazards analysis, and material take offs associated with civil discipline scopes.
Previous SRS experience is preferred. Previous experience related to construction engineering, work planning, job hazards analysis, and material procurement utilizing SRS specific processes, programs, procedures and systems is especially preferred.

Area Security
Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments


Work Hours
A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
