DUTIES
-Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.
-Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
-Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
-Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
-Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.
-Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
-Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.
-Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
-Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.
-Prepare reports for external publication.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience. OR A
MS degree and 12 years' experience. OR A BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience.
Experience/Skills: Considered an internal expert in area of expertise. Contributes to advancing
knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and
professional society presentations. Can solve complex problems in field.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance. An
active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected
candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are
preferred.

Additional Duties
- SRNS Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering Duties
- Support the development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety
documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site. Provide technical
assistance in developing and reviewing nuclear safety documents and analyses,
technical safety requirements, and related technical support documentation.
Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with
requirements and as necessary, applicable controls are implemented in field
procedures. Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments and maintain program
manuals.

Additional Experience Qualifications
- Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O
413.3, DOE O 420.1, DOE STDs 3009, 1186, 1189 and related directives and
standards is required.
- Fifteen years of relevant experience in developing, reviewing, and
maintaining safety basis documents and safety basis support documents is
preferred.
- Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in developing and providing safety
basis inputs to facility/project schedules, while meeting deadlines and
budgets. (Required)
- Candidate must perform work safely and be proficient in performing
Nuclear Safety Program assessments. (Required)
- Demonstrated previous SRS nuclear safety engineering experience is
preferred.

Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including
5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9
hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each
workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be
utilized at the discretion of the Design Authority Manager.
