Welding Engineer
Project: Supporting outage projects including Speedwater Water Heater Replacements.
Start: ASAP
Estimated End Date: 5/22/2026
Duration of Work Assignment: 45-50 day outage (start ASAP, end mid-May 2026)
Pay Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate's requested rate
Per Diem: GSA rate - $178/day
Mob / Demob: $500 each ($1,000 total)
Hours: Average work week expected to be 84 hours/week during outage. Pre or post outage work expected to be 40-50 hours/week.
US Citizen Required (Due to the nature of work, candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States)
The Welding Engineer will be a key technical role focused on overseeing and optimizing weld programs for a commercial nuclear power plant outage, including the replacement of speed water heaters. The Welding Engineer will ensure all welding activities align with regulatory standards, safety protocols, and project specifications to maintain the integrity of the nuclear components and systems. The Welding Engineer position will also support general welding and maintenance welding engineer activities, as well as welding process control, ensure work order alignment, read isometrics, prints and specs, and have knowledge/familiarity with B31 Piping, ASME codes, and inspection criteria. Position will support root cause analysis for welding-related issues and prepare technical reports and program documentation.
Education/Certification Requirements:

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding engineering, and at least 5 years in a commercial nuclear plant environment. Certification as a Certified Welding Engineer or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) from the American Welding Society (AWS) is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of nuclear regulatory requirements, including NRC guidelines, NQA-1 quality standards, and inspection protocols.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to document technical information clearly.
• Prior Quality Control experience and certifications are welcome. Must be able to obtain a badge at a nuclear power plant facility and work a demanding outage schedule.

Physical Requirements: This position is primarily a technical position rather than hands-on field welding, however the individual must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, have good visual acuity and attention to detail, and mobility for site walkdowns, which might include climbing stairs or ladders, entering confined spaces or elevated spaces, and walking/standing on uneven surfaces or industrial environments. Work shifts are expected to be long (12 hours/day during outage).
