Project Manager II – Nuclear Capital Projects
Location: Onsite – Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant (Welch, MN)
Pay Rate: $70-$85 an hour
Per diem: GSA Rate

Position Overview
Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support capital improvement initiatives within the Nuclear Projects organization. This role is responsible for managing plant modifications, equipment replacements, system upgrades, and facility enhancement projects in a highly regulated nuclear environment.
The Project Manager will lead projects valued at $1M+ from concept through implementation and closeout. This includes oversight of scope development, scheduling, cost control, risk management, stakeholder coordination, and field execution support. The position plays a critical role in maintaining plant reliability, regulatory compliance, and long-term operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Lead cradle-to-grave execution of nuclear capital projects including plant modifications, major equipment replacements, and infrastructure upgrades
Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource forecasts
Coordinate closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Construction, Finance, Supply Chain, and site leadership
Manage vendor relationships, contract initiation, procurement activities, and bid evaluations
Monitor and control project financial performance, including forecasting and variance analysis
Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements
Support field implementation through plant walkdowns, issue resolution, and coordination with craft personnel
Present project plans, authorization packages, and status updates to site leadership and stakeholders
Support outage-related execution activities as required

Work Environment
This is a primarily onsite position at Prairie Island. The role involves both desk-based project management activities and regular field presence within the operating nuclear plant.
Standard work schedule is 40 hours per week. During refueling outages or critical project phases, extended hours (up to 60 hours per week, including weekends) may be required.

Required Qualifications
U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain unescorted nuclear facility access (background screening, Fitness-for-Duty testing, and NRC authorization required)
5–7+ years of cradle-to-grave project management experience
Experience managing capital projects valued at $1M+
Strong knowledge of scope, schedule, cost control, and risk management processes
Familiarity with PMI PMBOK Waterfall/Predictive methodologies
Strong communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with technical teams and leadership

Preferred Qualifications
Commercial nuclear power plant experience strongly preferred
Utility or Navy nuclear background
ABET-accredited degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Nuclear Engineering
Construction project management experience
PMP certification strongly preferred
Experience with SAP, Primavera P6, MS Project, Unifier, or similar project management tools
Prior SRO or plant operations experience is a plus
