Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Wastewater Treatment Operator opportunity in Jonesborough, TN.

Position Summary:

The Wastewater Operator will perform tasks related to the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment System and the Sanitary Sewer Treatment System. Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of the plant operations and compliance with Local, State, and Federal Regulations.

This position requires the operator to gain a thorough working knowledge of the operation, methods, and procedures of the wastewater and sewer treatment systems, along with a thorough working knowledge of Local, State, and Federal Regulations governing wastewater and sewer treatment.

Responsibilities:

Under limited supervision, the Wastewater Operator will perform all aspects of operating the wastewater treatment system and the sanitary sewer treatment system. The operator will also perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring, testing, and reporting as required to maintain compliance with Local, State, and Federal Regulations governing the wastewater and sewer treatment processes.

Essential duties will include but not be limited to:

Ability to operate and troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct upset conditions, including both mechanical and treatment operations
Perform checks of the treatment processes to ensure proper operation and compliance
Ability to communicate both verbally and written with Local, State, and Federal personnel
Be on call to respond to emergency situations.

Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor or Associate's degree and three (3) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in an industrial environment deemed sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of this position
Ability to gain Wastewater Treatment Certification with the State of Tennessee
Experience with radioactive materials preferred
Knowledge of local, state and federal codes, regulations and procedures regarding wastewater treatment, control, and discharge of industrial waste
Principles of reporting recordkeeping, knowledge of basic computer systems and application software
Ability to operate, inspect, and maintain equipment used for water treatment operations
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with others
Ability to follow and comply with safety requirements
Ability to recognize, perceive and react appropriately to situations involving health and safety or hazardous conditions
Ability to read, interpret and follow policies, procedures, instructions, codes, manuals and job-related materials
Understanding of basic principles of record keeping and ability to maintain and update records appropriately
Knowledge and ability to perform preventive and routine maintenance on both wastewater and sewer treatment equipment as required

Other Job Requirements:

United States Citizenship
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance, if required
Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement;
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a fork lift, fork truck or other motorized industrial equipment as required for this position.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e., ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e., steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require respirator clearance up to and including the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
