Remote work with some business travel
The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position will perform a range of activities associated with the design, analysis, and manufacture of pressure vessels, related components, reactor vessel internals, and/or supports in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section III, and applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS Engineering design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and review engineering specifications, reports, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the NSSS.
Maintain and revise computer-aided design (CAD) models using Siemens NX and related engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 standards and best practices.
Utilize the results from BPVC Section III evaluations to optimize component design.
Collaborate with peers in different organizations and engage in the engineering change control process to ensure design decisions are well-communicated and well-understood.
Review design work of other groups to gain and maintain an understanding of how components, systems, and structures will work together.
Speak to the design of NSSS Components in discussions with manufacturing partners to ensure design intent is maintained while fabrication of components is considered.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Problem solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and reviews information appropriately. Uses own judgment and acts independently; seeks input from other team members as appropriate for complex or sensitive situations.
Planning/organizing: Prioritizes and plans work activities, organizes personal and project timelines and deadlines, tracks project timelines and deadlines, and uses time efficiently.
Adaptability: Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent interruptions, changes, delays, or unexpected events.
MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. A professional engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 8 years of full-time relevant working experience is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience with engineering design, including personal accountability for design decisions. Thorough understanding of engineering drawings per ASME Y14 is strongly preferred. Design experience with commercial nuclear components or BPVC Section III is strongly preferred. ASME Design Specification Certifying Engineer experience is preferred. Familiarity with stress engineering analysis (design by analysis methodology) is preferred.
Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
