Talascend is currently seeking a Radiation Safety Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Everette, Washington (State).

Overview

The Radiation Safety Technician is responsible for performing radiation safety tasks related to advanced nuclear reactor research, medical isotope production, and radiological operations. They will support the radiation safety program through surveying, operational support, and training to ensure compliance and safety across facilities.

Responsibilities

Perform contamination and exposure rate surveys
Conduct routine inspections of laboratory and radiological conditions
Deploy and collect airborne monitoring equipment and filters
Provide operational radiation safety support and serve as points of contact for radiation workers
Ensure radiological activities are compliant with policies
Maintain and calibrate radiological instruments
Review, survey, and complete shipments of Class 7 radioactive materials including receipt inspections
Assist in maintaining inventory and supplies of health physics materials and equipment
Perform and direct decontamination procedures as necessary
Communicate radiation protection requirements effectively to personnel
Provide radiation safety and instrumentation training to radiation workers
Follow, review, and update standard operating procedures
Observe work practices to ensure ALARA principles and controls are implemented
Monitor personnel dosimetry and facilitate personnel exchanges
Ensure proper posting and labeling throughout facilities
Assist with establishing controls for new radiological use areas
Perform other tasks as directed by the Radiation Safety Officer

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years’ experience in a health physics technician role, or an associate's degree in radiation protection, radiological/health science, or a related technical discipline, or Navy ELT veteran experience conducting radiological surveys, or equivalent training and experience
Experience planning, overseeing, and reviewing radiological work within radiation and contamination areas (preferred)
Experience with radiation detection instrumentation (swipe counters, ion chambers, GM meters, gamma counters, gamma spectroscopy systems)
Ability to perform physical tasks with and without respiratory protection
Ability to wear PPE, personal dosimeter, and respirator
Ability to work a modified schedule and overtime as needed
Strong trust and integrity, open communication, and teamwork orientation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interface with employees, management, and regulators
Flexibility to adapt to changing projects and schedules
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Strong organization and time management skills for handling multiple projects
The candidate must be able to perform physical tasks with and without respiratory protection and wear PPE as necessary.
