Hours: 40+
The required qualifications are as follows:
Position Details: We are seeking a highly experienced Reactor Physics Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and contribute directly to core physics analysis, modeling, and design activities. This is a high-impact role for a candidate who is ready to hit the ground running in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
• Lead reactor physics analysis and modeling in support of WARD250 SMR development
• Apply OpenMC and other Monte Carlo / deterministic codes to neutronics simulations
• Perform core design calculations including criticality, flux distribution, reactivity coefficients, and fuel burnup
• Support criticality safety analysis related to fuel movement and loading operations
• Provide SME-level guidance on High Temperature Gas Reactor (HTGR) physics behavior and design considerations
• Interface with engineering teams across mechanical, thermal-hydraulics, and materials disciplines
• Support regulatory and safety analysis documentation as required
• Contribute to design reviews, technical reports, and milestone deliverables
Qualifications:
• Expert-level experience in reactor physics - this role is for a seasoned SME, not an early-career engineer
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with OpenMC software
• Significant experience with High Temperature Gas Reactors (HTGR) - required, not preferred
• Strong background in neutronics analysis, core design, and criticality safety
• Experience with criticality safety analysis, specifically as it relates to fuel movement and loading
• Experience supporting nuclear technology development programs or advanced reactor projects
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field
Preferred Qualifications:
• Graduate degree in Nuclear Engineering
• Experience with SMR or advanced reactor design programs
• Familiarity with NRC licensing processes and safety analysis frameworks
• Experience working in start-up or fast-paced R&D environments
