ReNuke Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer II for our client's site in Charlotte, NC!
Description:
Travel expenses will be reimbursed, most of the travel for this role will be day travel.
Hybrid - Minimum 3 days onsite per week and expectation is to meet project support needs. Flexibility on days visiting Stations is required but typically onsite days will fall between Monday-Thursday. Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid workers should live within a reasonable daily commute to a client homebase listed, either in Mount Holly, NC or Charlotte, NC.
Multiple Locations for homebase available. Hybrid worker onsite requirements will be fulfilled by working at the engineer's assigned location or by visiting other CDG Station/Office locations to support the technical needs of the Region.
- Need additional engineering support for capital projects in Carolinas Dispatchable Generation (CDG).
- Stations Supporting will include:
o Asheville
o Blewett
o Cliffside
o Darlington
o Lincoln
o Marshall
o Mill Creek
o Smith Energy
o WS Lee
- Engineer/Eng Technician may be utilized for other Zones or emergent issues within CDG, but primary focus will be CDG Services project support for multiple projects at the Stations listed.
- Engineer/ Engineering Technologist will be expected to solve problems in their engineering areas of specialization with support from other Regional Engineering Teammates.
- Primary Responsibilities
o Provide technical support for Project Implementation teams.
o Participate in field inspections and testing activities at appropriate frequencies to enhance construction, commissioning, and operational support of Station projects
o Establish technical requirements for conducting reviews and gaining acceptance of design modifications of electrical systems and equipment
o Offer ideas and suggestions to reduce costs while maintaining overall quality of the engineered solutions, including constructability and ease of operability and maintenance
o Serve as technical liaison between power generating fleet and Subject Matter Experts within Duke Energy for highly complex issues
o Maintain relationships with plants, outside consulting engineering firms, maintenance shops, and equipment manufacturers.
o Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
o Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
- Secondary Responsibilities
o Increase knowledge and apply the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures to work activities.
o Function as a technical resource for Carolinas Dispatchable Generation Stations
o Serve as Engineer of Record for Electrical Systems and Equipment
o Provide technical support for Equipment Inspection, Testing, and Troubleshooting
o Drive consistency and share best practices across the operating fleet by utilizing Technical Standards (i.e. procedures, design criteria, specifications, equipment standards, vendor lists, technical lessons learned, etc.). Provide input to these documents to reflect lessons learned, standardization, and changes to industry practice.
o Drive the equipment reliability process by assessing equipment condition, health and developing long-term equipment strategies to optimize generating unit reliability
o Provide secondary technical support for generating station staff for equipment failures, malfunctions, and abnormal conditions
o Perform engineering activities including preparation of thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis for assigned responsibilities with oversight from experienced engineers.
- Required Qualifications
o Engineer I - Bachelors degree in Engineering, 0 Years of Experience
o Engineer II - Bachelors degree in Engineering, 2 Years of Experience
o Engineer III - Bachelors degree in Engineering, 4 Years of Experience
o Engineering Technologist III - Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology w/3yrs exp OR Associates in Engineering Technology w/5yrs exp OR 9yrs exp
o Engineering Technologist IV - Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology w/6yrs exp OR Associates in Engineering Technology w/8yrs exp OR 12yrs exp
- Desired Qualifications
o Experience supporting generating facilities (coal, combined cycle, natural gas, and simple cycle)
o Experience in various DCS Platforms such as Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, etc
o Experience with PLCs
o Experience with various communication protocols such as MODBUS, TCP/IP, serial, etc
o Experience with data links/interface devices such as MODBUS, PLCs, RTAC, TCP/IP, etc.
o Experience with Microsoft Windows and Windows Servers.
o Understanding of NERC Cyber requirements for Duke
o Knowledge of various instrumentation
o Ability to review and implement controls logic changes.
o Working knowledge of Emerson Ovation Control System
o Understanding of network management, database management, etc.
o Experience with datalink development and maintenance
o Experience reading, interpreting, and using plant Process & Instrument Diagrams
o Experience understanding of Station processes
o Knowledge of the functions and limitations of the specific station systems and equipment being controlled to enable confident troubleshooting and manipulation of the control system without incurring safety, reliability, or regulatory impacts
o Ability to perform point and logic configuration changes as well as graphics modifications and limited control loop tuning
o Ability to diagnose control system problems and alarms and provide resolution, including system hardware, software, logic, human-machine interface (HMI) and related procedures
o Ability to develop control philosophy and functional descriptions
o Experience with controls system Factory and Site Acceptance Testing
o Experience with controls Checkout, Commissioning, and Startup
o Knowledge of CIP-cyber security standards and how they affect site control system security, providing expertise for all standard datalink communication and network protocols, including Modbus serial, Modbus ethernet, OPC and other various protocols
- Additional Preferred Qualifications
o Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles
o Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
o Good written and oral communication skills
o Understanding of basic principles of project management
o Passing grade on Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
o Experience in the utility industry
- Working Conditions
o Ability to work in a power plant/industrial environment that includes exposure to heat, cold, dust and humidity
o Ability to climb ladders, enter vessels and work in hard to reach, tight and high places when necessary
o Willingness to travel by both air and automobile whenever necessary
o Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition
