Work Schedule:
-24 hour coverage of the nuclear station is required and split between a night shift and day shift nurse.
-Nurses will be working these short-term assignments 7 days per week, 12 hour shifts a day.
-1.5x overtime is provided for hours worked beyond 40 per week.
Position Overview:
-The Nurse will support Occupational Health Services (OHS) at a nuclear facility during a nuclear outage during which time a high volume of workers arrive at the facility to perform routine maintenance on the site. During this 3-4 week time period additional temporary nurses are needed.
This role requires demonstrated experience in emergency or acute care settings combined with occupational health expertise. The Nurse must be comfortable providing autonomous clinical judgment, serves as a resource for complex case management, and may assist with onboarding and orienting less experienced outage nurses.
Scope of Work:
-Provide first aid and initial medical response for work-related injuries and acute illnesses
-Conduct fit-for-duty evaluations in accordance with site procedures
-Perform drug and alcohol testing (DOT and non-DOT), including proper chain-of-custody documentation
-Support occupational health programs
-Assist with OSHA recordability determinations and incident documentation
-Maintain accurate, timely, and audit-ready medical records
-Ensure strict confidentiality of employee health information
-Support return-to-work evaluations and follow-up care as needed
-Apply advanced clinical assessment skills to evaluate complex or ambiguous workplace injuries and illnesses
-Independently manage occupational health cases with minimal escalation, including modified duty and return-to-work planning
Required Qualifications:
-Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of assignment
-Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in an emergency
-Ability to work 12-hour shifts (days or nights), 7 days per week for the duration of the outage (typically 3–4 weeks)
-Department, ICU, or comparable acute care setting
-Ability to pass nuclear background check, drug screening, and site clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related healthcare field
-Emergency/acute care background (ER, ICU, or equivalent) strongly preferred
-Prior occupational health experience required (plant, industrial, or employer-based clinic setting strongly preferred)
-Familiarity with OSHA guidelines and workplace injury/illness management
-Knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) medical regulations
Essential Job Functions (Physical Requirements):
-Ability to work extended shifts in a fast-paced, high-volume industrial environment, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
-Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods and respond to onsite medical needs
-Ability to liftup to 25 pounds and perform basic physical movements such as bending, kneeling, and reaching
-Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators, and comply with site safety and fitness-for-duty requirements
-Ability to communicate effectively and exercise sound judgment in routine and emergency situations
