POSITION DESCRIPTION
Provide essential technical knowledge and perform engineering work as described below. This position serves as a staff engineer performing engineering assignment of intermediate complexity.
Under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer, analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of
intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements
Develop and review specifications and design criteria
Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment and systems; and solve technical problems of intermediate complexity
Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients
Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures
Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines
Establish, control, and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittals
Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes
Other duties as assigned
Discipline Specific Job Requirements
Prepare and review calculations and specifications relating to Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development
Participate in HazOp / Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) for assigned systems
Demonstrated design experience in areas such as utility and/or process systems and Specification
For Principal level – Advanced knowledge in development of the following:
Process design criteria; process calculations; process simulation
Hazops / Process Hazards Analysis
Heat and material balances; utility summaries / balances
Block flow diagrams; process flow diagrams
P&IDs
Equipment list
Equipment process datasheets
Control systems datasheets
Functional logic narratives
Piping design data / line list; tie-in data
Hazardous area classification
Power requirement – electrical load list
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of related work experience for Process Design Engineer.
15+ years of experience for Principal Process Design Engineer.
Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes (including DOE orders)
Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Experience providing EPC services on large industirlal projects.
3D modeling and 2D CADD experience.
Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening in accordance with Federal requirements (details below),
Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Engineer license.
Practical field experience
NQA-1 experience.
EPC project experience for the following industries:
U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency
Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program
Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
Proficiency with reading and working with P&IDs
Knowledge of:
Development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
Development of P&IDs
HazOp Methodology
