JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Engineer will provide technical mechanical engineering support across assigned projects, supporting the design, analysis, and execution of mechanical systems and equipment. Positions are available at multiple levels, ranging from intermediate design engineers to senior and principal-level leads.
Depending on experience, individuals may perform detailed engineering design work, support complex equipment sizing and analysis, or provide leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering scope, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and review mechanical design criteria, calculations, and specifications
Perform engineering analyses related to mechanical systems and equipment
Size, specify, and evaluate mechanical equipment such as:
Pumps, compressors, and packaged equipment
Pressure vessels and heat transfer equipment
Support development of:
Equipment datasheets
Equipment lists and specifications
General arrangement and layout drawings
Interpret and work from Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Evaluate equipment performance including:
Pressure profiles
Heat transfer rates
Operational conditions
Coordinate technical issues with multi-disciplinary teams (process, electrical, project management, etc.)
Provide technical support for:
Procurement activities (bid evaluations, vendor submittals)
Construction (RFIs, field changes, installation and startup support)
Support equipment fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning
Ensure work is executed in accordance with:
Project scope, cost, and schedule baselines
Applicable procedures, codes, and standards
Additional for Senior / Principal Levels:
Lead mechanical engineering scope for assigned areas or projects
Provide technical guidance and oversight to engineers and designers
Develop project estimates, schedules, and progress reports
Interface with clients, vendors, and stakeholders on technical matters
WORK HOURS:
A standard 40-hour work week is scheduled. Additional hours may be required to meet project deliverables.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience by Level:
Design Engineer (Mid-Level): Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Senior Design Engineer: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
Principal Design Engineer: Minimum 15 years of relevant experience
Candidate must possess all the following experience and/or skills:
Experience supporting mechanical system and equipment design
Proficiency with:
Equipment sizing and specification
Mechanical calculations and analysis
Engineering documentation and specifications
Experience working with:
Rotating equipment and/or pressure systems
Heat transfer equipment and mechanical components
Working knowledge of:
Federal, state, and local codes and standards
Ability to coordinate across multi-discipline engineering teams
Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
US Citizenship required
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance if required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience supporting large EPC projects
Experience with:
Mechanical equipment design across full project lifecycle (design through commissioning)
Nuclear or DOE project environments
Familiarity with:
2D/3D design tools (e.g., CAD platforms)
Equipment performance evaluation and material selection
