Electrical Design Engineer (Senior / Principal)

COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for an Electrical Design Engineer position supporting a confidential client in the nuclear and federal infrastructure sector. This opportunity is open to experienced engineers at both the Senior and Principal levels depending on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
Pay Range: $60.00 - $67.00/hr
Location: Greenville, SC
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
Work Schedule: Full-Time
Clearance: May be required based on assignment

Join a high-performing engineering team supporting complex EPC projects for mission-critical nuclear and federal facilities. In this role, you will lead and execute advanced electrical design activities across all phases of project execution, ensuring technical excellence, code compliance, and successful project delivery. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project management, construction personnel, vendors, and federal stakeholders to develop innovative and reliable electrical power system solutions.

Responsibilities and Duties
• Serve as an Area Lead or Supervising Lead providing guidance and oversight to engineers and designers
• Analyze and develop technical solutions for complex engineering challenges
• Develop and review electrical specifications, design criteria, and engineering deliverables
• Perform and review engineering analyses, calculations, and system studies
• Coordinate technical issues with project management, clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other engineering disciplines
• Execute work in accordance with project quality procedures, scope, schedule, and cost baselines
• Support development of project estimates, schedules, staffing forecasts, and progress reports
• Track and report material quantities and engineering metrics
• Support procurement activities including technical bid evaluations, scope development, and vendor submittal reviews
• Support construction activities including responses to RFIs and field change documentation
• Prepare and modify electrical design documents including:
o Single-line diagrams
o Schematics
o Raceway layouts
o Lighting plans
o Grounding layouts
o Wiring diagrams
• Perform electrical calculations and studies including:
o Short circuit studies
o Load flow analysis
o Relay coordination
o Voltage drop calculations
o Cable derating
o Cable pulling tension calculations
o Motor starting analysis
o Harmonic analysis
o Ground grid analysis
• Interpret and apply federal, state, and local electrical codes and standards
• Develop electrical system descriptions and area classifications
• Support project startup and commissioning activities
• Perform additional duties as assigned

🚫 Mandatory Experience Requirement – Read Before Applying
• Candidates must be U.S. Citizens.
• Candidates must possess significant EPC project experience on large industrial or federal projects.
• Candidates must have prior experience performing advanced electrical power system design and analysis in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical (Power) Engineering
• Minimum:
o 10+ years of related experience for Senior-level consideration
o 15+ years of related experience for Principal-level consideration
• Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local electrical codes and standards, including Department of Energy requirements
• Strong understanding of electrical power systems and engineering design practices
• Experience supporting large EPC projects in industrial, nuclear, or federal environments
• Ability to communicate effectively with project teams, management, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a schedule-driven environment
• Proficiency with common engineering and office software applications
• Experience utilizing engineering analysis tools and CADD/3D modeling environments

Desired Skills
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience supporting nuclear facilities operating under ASME NQA-1 requirements
• Practical field or construction support experience
• Experience supporting U.S. Department of Energy or other federal agency projects
• Experience supporting manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology facilities
• Proficiency with:
o ETAP
o SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL)
o Intergraph Smart3D (S3D)
o Visual Professional lighting design software
• Experience managing or leading large engineering projects
• Knowledge of project controls, scheduling, forecasting, and project close-out activities
• Advanced knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and power systems

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical (Power) Engineering required
• Senior Level: Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience
• Principal Level: Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience
• Relevant experience in EPC, nuclear, federal, or large industrial engineering environments strongly preferred
