Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Site ES&H Director opportunity in Johnson City, TN.
Job Description:
The Site ES&H (Environment, Safety & Health) Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, implementation, and oversight of all environmental, safety, health, industrial hygiene, and radiological protection programs for the facility. This position ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations while promoting a strong culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement in ES&H performance.
The Site ES&H Director provides leadership and direction to the site safety organization, including direct supervision of the Safety Manager and other ES&H personnel, and serves as the primary interface with regulatory agencies, customers, and senior leadership regarding environmental, safety, and health matters. The role supports both pre-production and production activities within a highly regulated industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee all site environmental, safety, health, industrial hygiene, and radiological protection programs to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence
Develop, implement, and continuously improve ES&H policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives aligned with company objectives and regulatory requirements
Direct hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective action processes to reduce operational and workplace risks
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NRC/DOE (as applicable), PSM, RMP, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Provide leadership and supervision to ES&H personnel, including the Safety Manager, while fostering a strong culture of safety and accountability across the organization
Oversee emergency preparedness and response programs, including drills, training, and coordination with external agencies
Serve as the primary interface with regulatory agencies, customers, auditors, and senior leadership regarding ES&H matters
Monitor ES&H performance metrics, audits, inspections, and training programs, recommending and implementing continuous improvement initiatives
Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, and project teams to integrate ES&H requirements into all phases of facility activities
Ensure accurate maintenance of ES&H documentation, permits, reports, and regulatory submissions
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Health Physics, or a related technical field; Master’s degree preferred
10+ years of progressive ES&H leadership experience in a high-hazard industrial, chemical processing, manufacturing, nuclear, or regulated production environment
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary ES&H programs and personnel
Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NRC/DOE (if applicable), and other relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Significant experience with Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Management Programs (RMP), industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, and emergency response programs
Experience leading regulatory inspections, compliance audits, and incident investigations
Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic problem-solving skills
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage employees, leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies
Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar credentials are strongly preferred
Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and interface with all levels of personnel internal and external to the Company
Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ES&H management systems/software
