Talascend is currently seeking a Structural Analysis Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Bellevue, Washington.
Overview
The role involves analyzing the mechanical performance of reactor enclosure components, reactor internal components, reactor vessels, and nuclear island components under high temperature environments and neutron fluence. The position requires extensive experience in structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).
Responsibilities
Perform mechanical analyses of reactor structures, systems, and nuclear island components to verify their performance within applicable codes and standards such as ASME BPVC, ASCE, and AISC.
Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish and optimize nuclear components design to meet functional and quality requirements.
Establish and maintain documentation of analysis results and design solutions.
Perform peer reviews to ensure quality standards are met as per the engineering quality assurance plan.
Assist the team manager and senior manager when necessary.
Mentor engineers and team members to develop a skilled and confident team.
Act as a technical point of contact for various focus tasks.
Qualifications
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university. Aerospace, Nuclear, and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered.
Minimum of 8+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree, or 5+ years with an M.S. degree, or 3+ years with a Ph.D. degree.
Proficient in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and commercial mechanical stress analysis and modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS and SolidWorks.
Strong understanding of solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, and fatigue failure.
Working experience with pressure equipment design codes and standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Div. 1 and 5, Section VIII Div. 2, Process Piping analysis code B31.1 and B31.3 is highly desirable.
Experience in mechanical analysis of equipment or components, including structural analysis, buckling analysis, thermal analysis, and creep fatigue / inelastic analysis.
Demonstrated experience in seismic analysis of equipment or components, especially with response spectrum and time history modeling techniques in accordance with ASCE 4 and/or ASCE 43.
Experience working under strict quality assurance standards such as ASME NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
Familiarity with structural design codes such as AISC N690, AISC 360, AWS D1.1, and AWS D1.6 is desirable.
Experience with conceptual design and sizing using tools like Mathcad.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
