Lead Civil Engineer - East Coast, US
Project: Supporting plant license renewal effort
Pay Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate's requested rate
Duration: Initially 11 months (with potential to extend)
Schedule: 40 Hours per week
PD: $178.00/day (7 days per week)
Mob / Demob: $500.00 each way ($1,000 total)
Project Details: We are seeking an experienced Lead Civil Engineer to support an active license renewal effort at a nuclear generating station on the East Coast of the U.S. This is a technically driven, documentation-forward role requiring deep familiarity with NRC license renewal methodology, aging management review processes, and civil/structural design basis documentation. The ideal candidate brings senior-level experience with reinforced concrete structures, safety-related civil systems, and the regulatory framework governing extended plant operation, and is comfortable interfacing across engineering, regulatory, and plant operations teams in a nuclear environment.
Position Details/Scope of Work:
Responsibilities:
• Lead civil and structural engineering activities in direct support of the License Renewal Application (LRA) or Subsequent License Renewal Application (SLRA) process
• Perform and review Aging Management Reviews (AMRs) for in-scope civil structures, including reinforced concrete, masonry, below-grade components, and safety-related buildings
• Support the development and implementation of Aging Management Programs (AMPs) for civil/structural scope items
• Perform or oversee Time-Limited Aging Analyses (TLAAs) for applicable civil components
• Prepare and review technical reports, engineering calculations, and design basis documentation in support of license renewal submittals
• Assist in drafting and responding to NRC Requests for Additional Information (RAIs) related to civil/structural scope
• Coordinate with plant engineering, operations, and maintenance departments to support integrated license renewal activities
• Support UFSAR updates related to civil/structural design basis content
Requirements:
• B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution
• Minimum 10 years of civil/structural engineering experience in a nuclear power plant environment
• Working knowledge of 10 CFR 54 and NUREG-1800 (Standard Review Plan for License Renewal)
• Experience with aging management review methodology, including AMR and AMP development
• Ability to read, interpret, and produce structural drawings, engineering calculations, and technical specifications
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills
• Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization at a nuclear facility
Preferred Qualifications:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Prior direct experience supporting an NRC license renewal or subsequent license renewal project
• Familiarity with GALL-SLR (NUREG-2191) or GALL (NUREG-1801)
• Experience supporting NRC inspections, audits, or RAI responses
• Knowledge of nuclear QA requirements (10 CFR 50 Appendix B / NQA-1) as applied to civil/structural engineering activities
