[Industrial Hygienist] CIH

Seeking an experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with a minimum of five (5) years of professional industrial hygiene experience to support occupational health and environmental safety programs. The successful candidate will identify, evaluate, and control workplace health hazards while ensuring compliance with Department of Energy (DOE), OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. This role partners closely with researchers, engineers, operations personnel, and Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) professionals to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative industrial hygiene assessments for chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards.
• Perform exposure monitoring, including air sampling, noise monitoring, heat stress evaluations, and indoor air quality assessments.
• Evaluate workplace hazards and recommend engineering, administrative, and personal protective equipment (PPE) controls.
• Develop, review, and maintain industrial hygiene programs, procedures, and technical guidance documents.
• Interpret sampling results and prepare technical reports with recommendations for hazard mitigation.
• Support laboratory operations by participating in hazard analyses, work planning, and safety reviews.
• Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, DOE, EPA, and laboratory health and safety regulations.
• Provide industrial hygiene training and technical guidance to employees, supervisors, and researchers.
• Investigate occupational exposure incidents and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain calibration, operation, and documentation for industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote continuous improvement in occupational health programs.
• Stay current with emerging industrial hygiene practices, regulations, and technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible industrial hygiene experience in research, laboratory, manufacturing, energy, or similar complex environments. Typical CIH positions in DOE-related settings emphasize at least five years of field experience, strong OSHA knowledge, and expertise in exposure monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial hygiene principles, and occupational exposure assessment techniques.
• Experience using industrial hygiene monitoring equipment and interpreting analytical results.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE), national laboratory, or research environments.
• Familiarity with radiation protection interfaces and laboratory safety programs.
• Knowledge of chemical hygiene plans and laboratory ventilation systems.
• Experience with industrial hygiene data management software and exposure databases.
• Additional professional certifications such as CSP or CHMM are desirable.
