Designer I / II / III / Senior Designer – Nuclear Power Plant
Location: Nuclear Power Plant Site just outside Phoenix AZ
Position Type: Contract / Long-Term Assignment
Schedule: Full-Time
Pay Rate: Based of years of experience from $25-$55 an hour
Per diem is offered if located outside of a 100 mile radius of the plant
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Designer III / Senior Designer to support engineering and modification projects within a nuclear power plant environment. This role will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and modifying complex plant design packages and configuration documents in support of plant upgrades, maintenance activities, and capital projects.
The ideal candidate will possess strong CADD design experience, knowledge of plant systems and engineering drawings, and the ability to support multidisciplinary engineering teams in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities Designer III
Develop, review, and modify complex design systems for plant, substation, and customer projects while ensuring compliance with applicable design parameters and standards.
Prepare and update engineering drawings, layouts, and design documentation.
Support engineering teams with design modifications, repairs, and plant change packages.
Assist with development of material and equipment estimates for project cost evaluations.
Ensure design configuration documents remain accurate and in compliance with plant procedures and engineering requirements.
Coordinate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams to support project execution.
Support field walkdowns and verification activities as required.
Senior Designer
Provide design leadership for new installations, plant modifications, and complex engineering projects.
Assist engineers in the development and preparation of project drawings and construction packages.
Provide technical design guidance, recommendations, and support for plant modifications and repairs.
Develop manpower estimates, project schedules, cost estimates, and status reports.
Review and validate design packages to ensure quality and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and support construction and implementation activities onsite.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of two years of college or technical school coursework in CADD or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
Designer III: Minimum 4 years of related design experience.
Senior Designer: Minimum 6 years of related design experience.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and computer skills in a Windows environment.
CADD training and practical design experience required.
Ability to work within a team-oriented nuclear plant environment.
Valid driver’s license may be required depending on assignment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience using MicroStation and ProjectWise.
Knowledge of:
Structural and piping specifications
ANSI codes and standards
P&IDs
Isometric drawings
Process and flow diagrams
Previous experience supporting power generation, industrial, or nuclear facility projects preferred.
