Civil Design Engineer
Work Location: Hybrid (with trips to Connecticut or North Carolina)
Rate: Not Defined / need Candidate’s requested rate
Hours: 40
Duration: 11+ months
Responsibilities:
- Support planning, design, and permitting for civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects
- Conduct site visits to verify construction work aligns with design specs and blueprints
- Prepare/modify engineering documents (reports, specs, plans, schedules, cost estimates) using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Establish and verify survey control; lay out secondary control points
- Generate complete civil design drawing sets from FEED through IFC
- Develop detailed Civil 3D models (subassemblies, corridors, feature lines)
- Design/manage AutoCAD Civil 3D templates, code sets, and standards per client specs
- Support end-to-end development of civil design packages
- QC 3D models/drawings for accuracy and code compliance
- Generate grading, drainage, paving, and roadway designs
- Assess soil, terrain, hydrology, and topography from reports/maps/surveys/aerials
- Recommend process improvements
- Collaborate with project team members
The required qualifications are as follows:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 7 years of Site Civil Engineering experience
- EIT certification, working toward PE licensure
- AutoCAD and Civil 3D proficiency
- Grading and earthwork site design experience
- Stormwater drainage analysis experience (Autodesk SSA)
- Environmental permitting knowledge (NPDES, wetlands, 404, Phase 1 ESA)
- Site layout experience (parking, access, roadways, ADA)
- Roadway/paving design and specification experience
- Surveying knowledge (topographic, boundary, plats, coordinate systems)
- Geotechnical knowledge (sitework prep, roadway/heavy haul paving, security gate/fencing design)
- High-level Civil 3D proficiency
- Strong verbal and written communication/presentation skills
- MicroStation, OpenRoads, and GeoPak familiarity (preferred)
Physical Requirements: Must be capable of climbing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting as part of daily job responsibilities. Ability to lift a minimum of 35 – 60 lbs.
