Position Overview
EGS is seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Officer / Subject Matter Expert 1 to support the Electrical Safety Program at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

The Electrical Safety Officer will serve as a primary point of contact for electrical safety matters and provide technical expertise supporting the implementation and administration of LANL's Electrical Safety Program. The position will work directly with project managers, craft personnel, work planners, engineers, scientists, and field professionals to ensure electrical safe-work practices are effectively implemented across construction and field activities.

The selected candidate will provide advanced technical support involving electrical hazards and safe-work practices, conduct incident investigations and workplace inspections, review Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and support development of electrical safety policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.

This position requires strong field experience combined with advanced knowledge of electrical safety requirements, particularly NFPA 70E, NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA standards.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Safety Program Leadership
Serve as a primary contact and technical authority for electrical safety matters.
Support administration and implementation of the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
Serve as an electrical safety resource for LANL employees and management.
Provide technical guidance regarding electrical hazards, safe-work practices, and electrical safety requirements.
Collaborate with project teams and field organizations to ensure effective implementation of electrical safety practices.
Provide electrical safety support to construction projects and field activities.
Field Safety & Hazard Identification
Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards across various work environments.
Work directly with project managers, craft personnel, work planners, and field professionals.
Evaluate electrical work activities and conditions for compliance with applicable electrical safety requirements.
Assist organizations in identifying and addressing electrical safety concerns.
Support implementation of electrical safe-work practices for construction and field activities.
Evaluate controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
Incident Investigation & Corrective Actions
Conduct investigations involving electrical incidents and safety events.
Perform technical analysis to determine incident root causes.
Develop corrective actions based on investigation findings.
Perform calculations necessary to determine electrical severity scores associated with incidents.
Communicate investigation results and technical findings to applicable stakeholders.
Support implementation of corrective actions and improvements resulting from electrical safety events.
IWD & Lockout/Tagout Review
Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) involving electrical work.
Review Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and associated work controls.
Evaluate electrical hazards and applicable controls associated with planned work.
Work with planners, craft personnel, project management, and field organizations to address identified electrical safety concerns.
Provide technical recommendations regarding appropriate electrical safe-work practices.
Electrical Codes, Standards & Procedures
Apply advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, including:
NFPA 70E
NFPA requirements
IEEE standards
OSHA electrical safety requirements
Contribute to development of codes, standards, and specifications related to electrical equipment safety.
Develop written electrical safety policies and procedures.
Support development of electrical design standards.
Interpret and communicate electrical safety requirements to technical and non-technical personnel.
Help ensure electrical work activities comply with applicable safety standards and requirements.
Technical Electrical Support
Provide advanced technical support to engineers and scientists in solving complex electrical safety problems.
Apply electrical engineering and/or electrical technology knowledge across various applications.
Support electrical safety issues involving low-voltage AC and DC systems.
Evaluate technical issues and develop practical solutions to complex electrical safety challenges.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams.

Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum of 7 years of relevant field experience, OR
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Electrical Safety Experience
Candidates must demonstrate:

Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards and requirements.
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70E.
Knowledge of applicable NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA electrical safety requirements.
Experience with electrical engineering and/or electrical technology in multiple applications, including low-voltage AC and DC systems.
Experience identifying and evaluating electrical hazards in field environments.
Ability to interpret and apply technical electrical safety requirements.

Security & Training Requirements
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q-level security clearance.
U.S. citizenship is generally required to obtain a DOE Q clearance.
Must be capable of successfully completing Radiological Worker II (Rad Worker II) training.

Shift A: Monday–Thursday | 6:00 AM–6:30 PM
Shift B: Monday–Thursday | 6:00 PM–6:20 AM
Shift C: Thursday–Sunday | 6:00 AM–6:30 PM
Shift D: Thursday–Sunday | 6:00 PM–6:30 AM
