Position Overview
EGS is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer - Structural Design Engineer to provide structural design engineering and construction oversight support at the Savannah River Site.

The position is responsible for structural engineering tasks involving the analysis of structural systems under static and dynamic loads, design of multiple structural materials, foundation and anchorage design, accident-condition analysis, preparation of specifications, and vendor document review. Engineering services will be performed using applicable processes and procedures.

The successful candidate must have at least 10 years of experience in the design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities, working knowledge of STAAD, and knowledge of applicable national codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Analysis
Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks.
Perform analysis of structural systems for static and dynamic loads using manual computations and computer programs.
Design concrete structures.
Design structures utilizing:
Steel
Aluminum
Stainless steel
Timber
Composite materials
Perform foundation and anchorage design.
Perform structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions.
Prepare CSI specifications.
Review vendor documents.
Perform engineering services using applicable processes and procedures.
Technical Engineering & Leadership
Define the scope of technical programs and develop effective solutions to unique or controversial problems.
Apply technical experience in areas of specialization or broad-based experience across multiple technical fields to resolve complex problems.
Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex technical requirements into problem solving and program planning.
Address applications involving new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements.
Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex technical problems.
Provide direction on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new applications of existing engineering or scientific principles.
Provide technical guidance and assistance to less-senior professionals.
Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations.
Identify and recommend improvements when established technologies or methodologies are inadequate.
Planning & Project Support
Prepare plans incorporating schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for technical tasks identified by management.
Develop schedules.
Monitor project progress.
Monitor budget expenditures.
Review the quality of work performed.
Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues, and management.
Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.

Job Requirements

Required Education & Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

Ph.D. in an applicable science or engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience; OR
Master's degree with 8+ years of experience; OR
Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience.
Additionally, candidates must possess:

BS Degree in Civil Engineering, OR
Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Required Structural Engineering Experience
Candidates must demonstrate:

Minimum 10 years of experience in the design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
Working knowledge of STAAD.
Working knowledge of national codes and standards, including:
IBC
AISC - ASD and LRFD
ACI
AWS
NFPA
OSHA
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software.
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE L or Q clearance within the past two years are preferred.
Field Requirements
The candidate must be capable of performing weekly field walkdowns associated with the engineering work being performed.

Field walkdowns may involve:

Active construction sites.
Uneven surfaces and work in progress.
Walking distances exceeding one-half mile.
Climbing ladders to access remote areas.
Dressing out in protective clothing.
