Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support engineering activities at a nuclear power generation facility. This position will provide technical engineering support for plant systems, equipment, maintenance activities, modifications, and capital projects while ensuring compliance with nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience in nuclear power, power generation, or another highly regulated industrial environment, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support for nuclear plant systems and equipment, including piping, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, HVAC, pressure vessels, and other mechanical components.
• Develop and review engineering calculations, specifications, technical evaluations, and design documents.
• Support the development and implementation of plant modifications and design changes.
• Perform engineering evaluations of equipment issues, failures, and degraded conditions.
• Support root cause investigations and recommend corrective actions.
• Review drawings, vendor documentation, procedures, and technical specifications.
• Provide engineering support during refueling outages, maintenance activities, testing, and equipment installations.
• Perform or support field walkdowns to verify existing plant conditions.
• Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Projects, Quality, and other plant organizations.
• Support procurement and technical evaluation of replacement equipment and components.
• Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable NRC requirements, ASME codes, plant procedures, and nuclear quality standards.
• Support 10 CFR 50.59 evaluations/screens, as applicable.
• Work with vendors, contractors, and engineering firms to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain accurate engineering documentation and configuration control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Previous experience in nuclear power generation strongly preferred.
• Experience with mechanical plant systems such as piping, pumps, valves, HVAC, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and rotating equipment.
• Knowledge of engineering codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI, and applicable NRC requirements.
• Experience preparing or reviewing engineering calculations and design documents.
• Familiarity with 10 CFR 50.59, nuclear configuration management, and corrective action programs is preferred.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and project teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required.
• Must be able to meet applicable requirements for unescorted nuclear plant access, if required.
