Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Systems/Facility Engineer opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.

Work Location: Aiken, SC

Mechanical Systems/Facility Engineer-

Duties:

·         Provide hands-on facility and system engineering support for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, repair, and modification of mechanical equipment and systems in an operating nuclear facility.

·         Respond to equipment and system problems in the field, working directly with Operations, Maintenance, technicians, craft personnel, and other engineering disciplines to identify problems and develop practical engineering solutions.

·         Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and system performance issues, evaluate equipment failures and recurring problems, and provide technical recommendations for repair, replacement, modification, or continued operation.

·         Support mechanical systems and equipment such as pumps, valves, piping, tanks, HVAC, ventilation, heat transfer equipment, rotating equipment, and associated facility systems, as applicable.

·         Perform field walk-downs, equipment inspections, and system evaluations to verify equipment condition, configuration, operability, and compliance with design requirements.

·         Review drawings, specifications, procedures, maintenance history, vendor information, calculations, and other technical documentation when evaluating equipment and system issues.

·         Provide engineering support for maintenance activities, repairs, troubleshooting, testing, post-maintenance testing, system restoration, and return-to-service activities.

·         Design, upgrade, modify, and evaluate facility systems and components, including preparation, review, and approval of design changes and engineering evaluations.

·         Perform engineering calculations, failure evaluations, root cause analyses, system health assessments, and technical studies to evaluate system performance, reliability, and safety.

·         Identify equipment reliability issues and recommend corrective actions or improvements to reduce recurring failures and improve system performance.

·         Ensure system operation remains within the approved safety basis, operating limits, design requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.

·         Review proposed plant configuration changes to determine impacts on system design, safety basis, equipment operation, maintenance requirements, and operating procedures.

·         Resolve engineering-related corrective actions, equipment deficiencies, and system performance issues through applicable formal tracking and corrective-action processes.

·         Maintain alignment of drawings, procedures, calculations, technical documents, and equipment configuration with the approved system design and safety basis.

·         Provide timely technical direction and engineering support when mechanical equipment or facility systems experience unexpected operating or maintenance issues.

Education:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) to twenty (20) years of Mechanical Engineering and/or facility/system engineering experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, testing, evaluating, or modifying mechanical equipment and systems in an operating industrial facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform field walk-downs, evaluate equipment/system problems, and work directly with Operations, Maintenance, technicians, and craft personnel to develop and implement engineering solutions.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, valves, piping, HVAC/ventilation, tanks, rotating equipment, or other process/facility mechanical systems.
  • Experience reviewing existing facility designs and evaluating proposed modifications for impacts to equipment, systems, configuration, and operation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable national codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA, AWWA, IBC, AISC, ACI, and AWS, as applicable to assigned systems.
  • Nuclear, chemical, process, or wastewater facility experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Savannah River Site or other DOE nuclear facility experience.
  • Previous experience as a System Engineer, Facility Engineer, Cognizant Engineer, Design Authority, Maintenance Engineer, Reliability Engineer, or similar engineering role supporting operating facility systems.
  • Experience with equipment troubleshooting, failure analysis, root cause analysis, preventive/corrective maintenance, equipment reliability, and system health monitoring.
  • Experience supporting testing, post-maintenance testing, commissioning, system turnover, or return-to-service activities.
  • Working knowledge of NQA-1 requirements applicable to engineering specifications and design.
  • Working knowledge of 10 CFR 830.

Other Job Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
