We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Design Engineer with a strong background in structural engineering and complementary knowledge of Mechanical Design Engineering to support engineering design, modifications, and facility improvements.
The ideal candidate will possess a primary background in Civil/Structural Engineering, with demonstrated experience designing, analyzing, and supporting structural systems and components within complex industrial environments. Candidates must also have sufficient Mechanical Design Engineering knowledge to effectively coordinate structural requirements with mechanical equipment, systems, and components.
This position requires a multidisciplinary engineering approach, with an emphasis on structural integrity, equipment support systems, foundations, structural steel, and the integration of mechanical and civil/structural designs.
Experience supporting nuclear facilities, power generation, uranium enrichment, or other highly regulated industrial environments is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support civil/structural engineering systems and components, including structural steel, foundations, equipment supports, pipe supports, and equipment mounting systems.
- Perform structural engineering analyses, including load calculations, structural integrity evaluations, and assessment of structural modifications.
- Develop detailed civil/structural design drawings, specifications, calculations, and supporting engineering documentation.
- Evaluate structural design requirements associated with mechanical equipment installation, modifications, and facility upgrades.
- Apply applicable engineering codes, standards, and design criteria to ensure structural integrity, safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Support the evaluation and selection of structural materials and components based on engineering requirements and project specifications.
- Review existing structural configurations and recommend design modifications or improvements to support operational and project needs.
- Mechanical Design Engineering – Secondary Focus
- Apply working knowledge of Mechanical Design Engineering principles to support the integration of mechanical equipment and systems with civil/structural designs.
- Coordinate structural requirements associated with mechanical components, equipment layouts, piping systems, and equipment support configurations.
- Assist with mechanical design reviews and interdisciplinary engineering evaluations to ensure compatibility between structural and mechanical systems.
- Support the development and review of mechanical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation as required.
- Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to evaluate equipment loads, mounting requirements, and structural interfaces.
- Multidisciplinary Engineering and Project Support
- Utilize CAD software and applicable engineering design tools to develop and modify technical drawings and design packages.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, including Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and other technical disciplines.
- Conduct engineering evaluations, design reviews, and technical assessments to verify design performance, reliability, and safety.
- Participate in design validation, testing, and engineering troubleshooting activities as applicable.
- Provide technical guidance to construction, manufacturing, installation, and project execution teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives involving engineering design processes, technical standards, and project documentation.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable industry regulations, codes, quality requirements, and project specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of engineering calculations, design revisions, technical evaluations, and project documentation.
- Manage multiple engineering assignments while maintaining project schedules, technical accuracy, and deliverable quality.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated professional experience in Civil/Structural Engineering, with a strong emphasis on structural design, analysis, and engineering calculations.
- Working knowledge of Mechanical Design Engineering principles, with experience coordinating structural designs with mechanical equipment, systems, or components.
- Experience designing or evaluating structural steel, foundations, equipment supports, pipe supports, equipment mounting systems, or related structural components.
- Experience performing or reviewing structural load calculations, engineering analyses, and design documentation.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or comparable engineering design applications.
- Familiarity with structural analysis and engineering calculation tools used to evaluate structural integrity and design performance.
- Understanding of applicable civil/structural engineering codes, standards, materials, and construction practices.
- Ability to interpret and develop multidisciplinary engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering judgment skills.
- Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet established project deadlines.
- Familiarity with applicable industry regulations, safety requirements, and engineering quality standards.
Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license obtained through accredited examination, preferably in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 5–6 years of related engineering experience, including approximately 2 years supporting engineering activities within a nuclear facility.
- Previous engineering experience in nuclear power, uranium enrichment, power generation, or other highly regulated industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated experience integrating civil/structural designs with mechanical equipment and plant systems.
- Experience with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD.Pro, GT STRUDL, SAP2000, or comparable applications.
- Experience supporting plant modifications, equipment installations, structural evaluations, or multidisciplinary engineering design packages.
