Lays out, fits, and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts, according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy. Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems, on basis of knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings.
Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.
Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, ore gas welding equipment.
May assemble parts by bolting and riveting.
May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools, and be designated Welder, Structural Repair.
Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob.
Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using handtools and power tools.
Cuts & threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine.
Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand.
Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic using handtools and power tools. Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic.
Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and calks joints. Joins piping by means of threaded, calked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints,
Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools.
Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leading.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED TOOLS

Educational and experience preferences: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. 2-4 years experience as certified welder (AISC) (ASME) and in duties described above and/or equivalent combination of experience and technical training or apprenticeship program. Certifications in MIG, Stick & TIG must be current and not more than 6 months old. OSHA 10 or the ability to get an OSHA 10. Passport is required.
Physically, workers must be able to: See well (either naturally or with correction); Coordinate the movements eyes, hands and fingers; Use hands, arms and fingers fully; Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding in excess of 8 feet; Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, squatting and/or crouching; lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and occasionally more; Sustained overhead work; Frequently moves, assembles, lifts or carries furniture, equipment, tools and materials. Physical presence on the job site is required. Employee must be able to travel internationally, live in dorm style shared housing and work outside in extreme cold temperatures. Must be able and willing to undergo medical & dental exams/testing and pass all physical requirements of the contract.
