Responsible for all aspects related to the operation of department process equipment, safety, environmental stewardship, profitability, production, reliability, and equipment availability
Coordinate activities with other team leaders and support groups to ensure the manufacture of desired pulp in both quality and quantity necessary
Partner with mill operations leaders to troubleshoot and solve complex operating issues and provide long-term, cost effective solutions while maintaining quality and appropriate use of energy.
Participate in the development of strategic outage plans and work with cross-functional teams to meet demands of shutdown processes and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently while maintaining production and environmental goals.
Coordinate with mill leadership to plan and implement capital improvement projects.
Develop and review cost center budget, operating costs and productivity levels and approve expenditures ensuring costs are managed within guidelines and objectives.
Supervise hourly and salary personnel providing leadership, development, performance management, discipline and other personnel related support.
Planning and implementation of capital projects
Project and equipment installations, outages, and managing union labor/management relationships and agreements, working with maintenance and process control, and outside operating departments.
Bachelor's Degree in related field (Engineering -- Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or Paper Science) or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
2-5 years paper mill manufacturing experience and/or operational experience with Kamyr, batch, drum washer and chem iwasher operations and turpentine systems preferred.
Experience with PSM processes and work systems
Experience working at multiple paper mills or multiple department areas within mill are preferred.
Experience with improvement/lean tools such as: Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and enterprise management programs.
