Job Description

Enthalpy has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for the right individual to fill the role of FIELD ENVIRONMENTAL MONITOR

If selected, you will be involved with major civil works that save lives and property for the communities and citizens that rely on the work you will oversee. We are seeking highly qualified environmental monitors for for upcoming levee upgrades throughout the the southwestern states. Working as part of the management team, you will oversee the physical work performed by the contractor to ensure full compliance with all environmental laws, regulations and best practices to ensure the natural environment and all inhabitants are protected to the highest standards.

TO QUALIFY FOR CONSIDERATION, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:

The Field Environmental Monitor (FEM) will be required to inspect a variety of activities such as the implementation of erosion control programs/plans, preconstruction surveys, all ground disturbing activities to ensure environmental compliance, dewatering and handling of contaminated water, hauling and disposal of contaminated soil, as well as import and placement of clean fill. It is important that the FEM possess the necessary combination of education, experience, and skills to fulfill the specific needs of the project and to meet the expectations of the Client.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE FEM ARE:

∑ Wildlife biologists are preferred, but the FEM must have a Bachelorís degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in biology or environmental ecology that includes at least thirty (30) semester hours in biological sciences, natural resource management, wildlife biology conservation biology, or restoration ecology.
∑ OSHA's 40 hour HAZWOPER certification (29 CFR 1910.120). Proposal shall provide copy of most recent HAZWOPER completion certificate to show compliance with this requirement.

EXPERIENCE

∑ Minimum three (3) years of field experience in performing biological construction monitoring, preconstruction surveys, or construction crew environmental training and coordination. Experience must be directly related to environmental considerations and wildlife monitoring in construction.
∑ Positive references from industry or government for previous monitoring duties must be provided.
∑ Only provide USIBWC references if USIBWC projects fulfil the only professional qualifying work for an individual.
∑ Knowledge of theory, principles, and methods of natural resource management as it relates to the protection and restoration of the ecosystem, associated fish and wildlife resources, and endangered species.

∑ Knowledge of theory, principles, and methods of cultural resource management.
∑ Understanding of construction projects and related environmental protection measures.
∑ Details of the proposed project planned activities, environmental protection commitments, and proposed mitigation and enhancement measures.
∑ Familiarity with the project area or similar environs.
∑ Awareness of regulatory requirements associated with, and the details of any authorizations granted for, the project.
∑ Knowledge of wildlife species (common, special status, endangered, threatened, etc.) near the project area.

ABILITIES
∑ Must be able to read and apply permit conditions, must be familiar with all pertinent regulations, and must possess excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with the contractors and foremen to ensure permit compliance. FEM must also have strong written communication skills.
∑ Ability to interact with construction crews.
∑ Ability to work with others, including regulatory agencies such as the USFWS and the USACE.
∑ Demonstrate independent and effective problem solving/decision making.
