Manage, coordinate and conduct site improvements on plant instrument and control systems in the Fossil Generation fleet. Function under minimal supervision as a self-directed technical expert on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, analog, and computer control systems associated with the diverse equipment comprising the Fossil Generation Fleet and associated auxiliary systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is self-directed technical expert role.
Analyze control data and observations to alter maintenance procedures and/or operational guidelines for optimizing equipment reliability and availability.
Communicate and analyze utilizing appropriate personal oral skills, electronic technologies and software applications.
Lead, coordinate, conduct and implement problem solving activities and develop corrective action plans and programs utilizing continuous improvement tools to reduce O&M costs and maximize unit availability.
Maintain a safe and environmentally secure work environment for self and all others on site. Able to perform the duties of Protection Leader as required.
Perform as Site and/or Project Manager for installation and startup of new or modified I&C related systems.
May act in a front line leader capacity, as work requires.
Act as plant lead on NERC CIP related activities regarding plant control systems.
Provide technical expertise and direction to other Client work group or contractors pertaining to the maintenance, operation and repair of all systems associated with plant control equipment.
Maintain and has responsibility of DCS/PLC/PC control system databases, configurations and graphics.
Train, coach and mentor junior members of the Fossil Generation Organization, including engineers, engineering technicians, I&C technicians, operators and other support group members.
Key contact during major plant improvement projects. Functioning as a system lead during periodic plant outage.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:
Associate degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Technology or Instrumentation Engineering; OR
Satisfactory completion of two years of a four year recognized college Engineering Degree program, and a minimum 10 years’ experience working in a power plant, steel mill, refinery, or chemical plant site. This will include a minimum of 4 years working with the operation, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting of pneumatic, electronic, digital, PLC, PC, microprocessor and Distributed Control System.
Computer skills must include database power user, Word, Excel, and operating systems typically found in a power plant environment which would include PI, PMAX, DBDOC, etc.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to all management levels.
Work effectively with people at all levels, both within and outside the company.
