Zachry Group has an exciting opportunity for a Diesel Mechanic to join our Equipment Asset Management team. This position will primarily travel throughout the country assisting the senior technician in repairs, assembly, disassembly and general maintenance on equipment including lattice and rough terrain cranes. The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of diesel mechanics, operations and regulations associated with industrial construction.
Support the senior technician in the assembly, disassembly, repairs, paint and general maintenance of Zachry owned equipment fleet and third party rented cranes on job sites throughout the country and the home office equipment yard.
Daily operations will include supporting rigging, routine and critical lifts.
Candidate must exhibit a professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation and collaboration, and enhances productivity in the workplace in a time-conscious and efficient manner.
Promptly troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic and other operating systems in order to prevent work stoppage and additional manufacturer service costs.
Routinely install, service and maintain range warning devices for the prevention of mishaps, assuring the compliance of all OSHA, MSHA, ASME and EPA rules, regulations, standards and company policies.
Reviews and maintains designated equipment to satisfactory condition and appearance standards.
Documents and reports all completed maintenance, repairs or troubleshooting events in order to maintain the history record of assigned units.
Assist the loading and unloading of lattice boom, rough terrain, tower, tele-crawlers, gantry, truck and boom cranes; occasionally transport cranes or crane parts as needed.
Participate in and provide accident investigation teams with necessary documents, reports and other information as requested.
Complete and report vehicle maintenance and inspections.
Maintain nationally recognized credentials for crane operator, rigging, and lift director.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record
Able to pass a criminal background check
Comply with any site-specific regulations or policies
Must be comfortable working in confined spaces
Must be able to work at heights
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
Able to travel 75-90% of the time
Current TWIC Card or able to gain one
Safety centric work ethic
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
5-7 years of experience working as a Diesel Mechanic
Extensive crane operations experience
Understanding and implementation of Tier 1 Best Practices
Familiar with industry trends, technology and safety software
Certifications and/or Licenses Preferred (Must be willing to obtain):
NCCCO - Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes (LBC)
NCCCO - Telescopic Boom Cranes—Swing Cab (TLL)
Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
Will talk and hear to communicate. Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools. May be required to lift, carry and move at least 50lbs.
Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms. Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
The Diesel Mechanic will work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse, and trailer or building on construction sites. They must possess a vision (corrected or uncorrected) that allows for clear visibility from a distance of 20 inches or less. Job site will contain: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking, bells whistles and alarms.
