Title: Boiler Engineer
Position Type: Contract
The Boiler Engineer position is responsible for learning to operate natural gas for the Mill. In addition, this position is responsible for learning and assisting maintenance and maintaining and operating all auxiliary equipment associated with the powerhouse and at the WWTP in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Job functions include but are not limited to the following.
Through Understanding of Mass Balance Steam & Condensate Systems and Safety and corrective or preventative measures, ensuring correct operation.
Stewardship and maintaining of all PH and auxiliary systems including but not limited to water, chemical treatment, air emissions, recovery, turbines, burner management, steam production.
Leadership PH crew with daily assignments other than routine tasks to Boiler Operators & Assistant Boiler Operators with PH operations, champion safety daily.
Stewardship of Equipment, Systems and Boilers with reporting all system upsets to PH Supervision & Management
Flame Safety & Operate powerhouse equipment – making any necessary adjustments (through procedure or knowledge) to assure the safest & efficient powerhouse operation.
Accurate Electronic & Written PH Logs of all activities associated in identifying Critical Automated Equipment health and high-level alarms -access severity and respond promptly with notifying correct Authorities on escalated events.
Clear Concise & Prompt Communication with Paper Machine Supervisors & Management along PH Supervisor through written, radio, phone the PH incidents and excursions as they relate to Production Steam, Operational issues with units and facility, this includes forced outages, machine downs and critical equipment / systems issues. • Record various water, electrical & process meter readings periodically for use in the Daily Logs.
Facility owner of PH Facilities within the confines of the PH, as it relates to Contractors, Visitors, and employees for safety, instruction and guidelines and communication plan within the confines of PH.
Steward of Major Equipment & System “Quality” – Feedwater Pumps, FD/ID Fans, Pretreatment, CEMS, Chemical Feed Systems, Steam & Condensate, Safety Systems and Weather Alert . • Prove Stewardship or ASME guidelines and PH Water chemistry, perform chemistry testing and communicate to the Boiler Engineer the KPI outside program limits.
Provide mentorship and direction for Boiler Operator in testing the for the Boiler Engineers position learning on all “BE”’s PH activities, able to provide positive communication for learning for “Boiler Operator”
Owner of PH LOTO program with BO executing and provide secondary signature to LOTOs and understand isolation points.
Report Environmental excursions above limits and understand functions of the CEMS and air permit, report to Supervision and Environmental Manager any OOC or Fail Calibrations to parties promptly.
Safe Handling & Setup of Chemical Skids – understanding of MSDS and where they are stored, through understanding of Safe work Practices and Disposal.
Stewardship of sumps and operational condition and contamination. • Assist in troubleshooting of System issues installation maintenance, and repair on powerhouse equipment that involves, but not limited to, packing pumps, setting, dismantling, and reassembling plant equipment.
Pretreatment Champion along with Boiler Operator, reporting to PH Supervisor any discrepancies within program limit guidelines
Must follow safety and housekeeping techniques in accordance with Shop Rules, Safety Rules and Safety Absolutes!
Learn through progressive tasks from PH Supervisor in the Boiler Engineer position.
Perform the duties of the Boiler Engineer as qualified.
Operational Steward of the Daily PH activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Job requires exposure to weather, dirt, grease, fumes, heat, etc.
Job requires working around equipment while it is in operation- and requires climbing ladders from girders and scaffolds. Job Description – Boiler Engineer
Manufacturing and or Mill experience strongly preferred
Leadership & Communication
Understand Hydraulic Energy associated with Steam / Condensate Systems • Strong Boiler Startup – Flame Safety
Education / Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Trained documented GPI “BO” program qualification criteria – GPI- “only”
Required to have a NUILPE 4TH Class High Pressure Engineer License.
Must learn a thorough knowledge of the function and operation of all powerhouse equipment, auxiliary machines, and remote-control equipment.
Must be able to read and interpret various gauges, drawings and technical manuals and chemists’ instruments.
Must be able to distinguish color changes in boiler and treated water tests, and WWTP water testing.
Keep permanent records on all PH activities regarding tests and treatment.
Standing for extended periods.
Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
Moving or lifting of equipment, materials, and tools up to 50 lbs. repeatedly for an 8 hr., shift.
Climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or movements within confined areas.
Work in buildings and areas of fluctuating temperature and weather.
Job requires exposure to weather, dirt, grease, fumes, and heat.
