Manager - Process Safety & Engineering


This position provides supervision and direction for a Technical Services team consisting of personnel responsible for process engineering and evaluating process safety.† This position is responsible for developing and implementing a work plan and identifying training, cross-training, and personnel development needs in areas of process engineering, process safety, and Process Safety Management (PSM) to continuously improve the teamís capabilities to support the needs of the Electricity Segment power plants.


Provides supervision and direction for the team including assigning projects and responsibilities in alignment with individual capabilities, responsibilities, and the needs of the power plants.
Provides technical expertise and direction in Process Safety analyses and risk analyses
Ensures Process Safety personnel are adequately trained and cross-trained to continuously improve the teamís ability to support the Electricity Segment power plants in the specific areas of responsibility.
Assumes the responsibility for performing evaluations, calculations and analysis related to Process safety as well as Environmental related calculations as required (e.g. overpressure protection schemes, BLEVE analyses, emission calculations, dispersion analyses, etc.).
Ensures personnel provide compliance oversight with PSM, RMP, and all local, state, and federal regulations for all US power plants as required.
Initiates and leads audits and evaluation of power plants compliance with Best Engineering Practices, regulations and Process Safety related standards.
Ensures audits of PSM program documentation supporting processes, procedures, and records are in place and in compliance for all US power plants as required.
Ensures team maintains expertise in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) methodologies and an adequate number of personnel are trained to conduct PHAs so that PHAs and PHA revalidations are performed competently and on schedule.
Ensures PHA documentation, including recommendations and action items, is tracked to completion and ensures any outstanding issues are appropriately resolved.
Ensures PSM-related databases are properly managed to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
Assigns direct report(s) to serve as the primary respondent in the event of any internal or external PSM audit activity.
Must be able to quickly and physically access and travel to all areas of the plants.
Participates in Human Resource matters including hiring, promotion, disciplinary action and termination of personnel in coordination with management and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Must be able to travel up to 25%.
Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner, enter and exit vehicle without assistance, remain alert while driving for continuous periods of time and read and understand maps.

Other duties and projects as assigned.

Bachelorís Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
A minimum of ten (10) years of Process Engineering experience in power generation, refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industry.
Professional Engineering registration is required.
Previous supervisory/leadership experience required.
A working knowledge of process, plant and equipment applicable codes and standards is required.
Verse in compiling, analyzing and checking Process documentation: PFD, P&IDís, Heat and Mass Balance, PSV calculations and specifications, control valve specifications, pressure vessel analysis.
Experience in leading PHA, HAZOP, CHAZOP.
Experience setting up process evaluation systems.
Must have a high degree of initiative, ability to work with minimal or no supervision and a high level of confidentiality.
Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.†
Must have the ability to read, write and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to understand and communicate information in a manner that will enable the employee to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.†
Must possess at any time a valid driverís license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT.

Must be able to work in plant operating areas including exposure to noise, vibrations, heat and cold.†
Must be able to wear any required protective equipment required by safety procedures and regulations.†
Job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.†
The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time.
