Title: Control Room Operator
Position Type: Contract
Location: Middletown, CT
Reports to: Operations Shift Supervisor
PIC Group is seeking a self-directed, multi-faceted Control Room Operator to support operations of a large simple cycle 800MW power plant located in Middletown, CT. The Control Room Operator will report to the Operations Shift Supervisor and be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Plant equipment. The Control Room Operator is vital to the safe operations of the facility and will be integral to a team of seasoned operators with a solid history of strong plant performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Position Reports to the Operations Shift Supervisor
Operate Control Room, boiler, steam turbine, plant auxiliary equipment and systems, combustion turbines and auxiliaries during normal and emergency operation
Communicate information clearly, both verbally and in writing
Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems
Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data
Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures
Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed
Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings
Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others
Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks
Respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel
Take, record, and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters
Operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation
Requires operation of a personal computer
Performs other duties as assigned.

Work well with internal and external personnel.
Communicate information clearly, verbally and in writing
Use discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information.
Working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
Exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation.
Comply consistently with plant policies including those concerning safety and environment.
Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid driver's license is required.
Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment to345KV, high noise areas.
Normal office environment and/or outdoors work environment. Outdoor environment at generating plant location include working at heights and in all temperatures and climate conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme.
Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment.
Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
Education / Experience:
4+ years of experience in power plant operation.
HS Diploma required.
Must be computer literate and competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
