NAES Staffing Services has immediate needs for Environmental Specialist to assist an external client in Nevada TX working in a gas-fired power plant. This is a 6-month assignment. Pay rate is $43.25 and per diem is $203 daily.
The Electric Plant Environmental Specialist is responsible for monitoring, managing, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations at electric generating facilities. This includes responsibilities related to air and water permits, pollution control systems, and environmental best practices, especially those involving the use of lake water and reclaimed water for cooling. The role also ensures compliance with Title V Air Permits, TPDES and other applicable environmental programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
� Ensure compliance with TPDES, Title V Air Permits, RCRA, and all relevant TCEQ and EPA regulations.
� Oversee environmental programs associated with the use of lake water and reclaimed (re-use) water for cooling, including reporting and operational best practices.
� Maintain and submit environmental reports, including air emissions, water discharge monitoring (DMRs), hazardous waste tracking, and greenhouse gas inventories.
� Maintain accurate documentation and compliance records.
� Conduct field inspections and oversee emissions control equipment, water usage/discharge systems, and stormwater infrastructure.
� Monitor environmental parameters and investigate any deviations or permit exceedances.
� Ensure all monitoring and data logging systems (e.g., CEMS) are functioning and calibrated.
� Assist with permitting and renewals for air, water, and waste programs.
� Manage programs including SPCC, SWPPP, hazardous materials compliance, and chemical inventory.
� Support documentation and reporting related to reclaimed water permits and agreements for cooling water supply.
� Provide guidance to plant operators and supervisors on environmental regulations, cooling water practices, and permit conditions.
� Conduct training sessions on regulatory updates, compliance requirements, and spill response.
� Assist with audits, inspections, and investigations as needed.
� Serve as liaison with TCEQ, EPA, and other agencies during inspections, audits, and permit modifications.
� Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to ensure environmental considerations are addressed during projects and operational changes.
Minimum Qualifications
� Bachelor�s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
� 3�5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably within power generation or industrial operations.
� Knowledge of TCEQ programs and Texas environmental permitting.
Preferred Qualifications
� Experience with natural gas or combined-cycle power plants.
� Familiarity with lake water withdrawal and reclaimed water re-use in power plant cooling.
� Experience with TPDES permit reporting and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
� Certification such as CHMM, REM, or similar.
� Exposure to ISO 14001 environmental management style frameworks.
