Technical Field Geologist
Experience Level: 5–10 Years
Location- 299 Logan Martin Dam Rd, Vincent AL, 35178
Contract- 3 Years
Client- Southern Company Services
Travel Requirement: 100% Travel (Southeastern U.S.)
Schedule: Typically 4x10 schedule (Monday–Thursday); occasional 10-day shifts
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Geology (Preferred) or Geological Engineering
Position Summary
The Technical Field Geologist provides field oversight and technical support for environmental and geotechnical investigations, including monitoring well installations, foundation investigations, contamination assessments, and geologic site characterizations.
This is a field-intensive position requiring extensive travel throughout the Southeastern United States (primarily Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi). The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with drilling programs, soil and rock logging, groundwater monitoring, and contractor management.
Key Responsibilities
Field Oversight & Investigations
Provide field oversight for:
Monitoring well installation programs
Foundation investigations
Contamination assessments
Geologic site characterizations
Execute field investigations using various drilling methods and resources
Perform detailed soil and rock logging
Prepare professional logs for soil, rock, and monitoring well construction data
Groundwater & Environmental Monitoring
Install and maintain water monitoring and water quality equipment
Manage and interpret data outputs from monitoring systems
Conduct environmental sampling and testing in accordance with regulatory standards
Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination
Manage drilling contractors and related vendors per company procedures
Interface with internal teams, customers, geologists, and land group peers
Support collaborative field investigations and reporting
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate field documentation and reporting
Utilize gINT BoreDM Boring Log Program for boring log development
Prepare technical summaries and reports
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering
5–10 years of related field experience
Experience with:
Soil and rock logging
Monitoring well construction
Groundwater monitoring
Environmental sampling
Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
Working knowledge of gINT BoreDM Boring Log Program
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Travel & Work Requirements
100% travel required across the Southeastern U.S.
Ability to work extended field schedules (4x10 shifts; occasional 10-day assignments)
