Job Title: Environmental Engineer 1
Immediate W2 contract position available in Birmingham, AL (Hybrid).
Estimated Duration: 1 year

Job Description / Desired Qualifications:
The position will fill a water resources engineer in hydro organization. The company owns and operates hydro generating plants across several watersheds. Reservoir management is responsible for the implementation of the overall water control plan of these watersheds which includes operational forecasting, flood control, and drought management. Reservoir operations uses software systems and data from many sources to implement the water control plan: hydrologic equipment and instrumentation, weather forecasts, and historical operational information. A remote network of real-time instrumentation is also maintained by reservoir management personnel and contractors including rain, stage and temperature sensors. Reservoir management also provides watershed modeling using river analysis software. To facilitate these functions, computer systems and a software suite referred to as HOMS (Hydro Optimization Management System) are also operated and maintained by reservoir management. This position will support the hydro reservoir management team with these activities.

Work Location & Schedule
The position is part of a team that works remotely beyond regular business hours and during weekends to support real-time systems.
The position will be hybrid, combining both office-based and remote work.
Assignment Schedule: 40 hours a week at 3 days in-office, 2 days remote, 1-2 weekends a month

Primary Responsibilities:
Water resource management which includes hydro operations forecasting, flood control, and drought management
Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
Watershed modeling
Support of the gauging systems and equipment
Computer system management
Programming to support software developed and maintained by reservoir management
Computer model development and configuration

Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required

Experience:
Water resource management
Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
Watershed modeling
Fluid mechanics
Computer model development and configuration
Programming and scripting languages

Familiar with:
Gauging systems and equipment
Data collection and dissemination
