Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
Certification: Professional Engineering (PE) registration is highly preferred.
Experience: 7+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the preparation and development of mechanical design deliverables for power generation and distribution projects. This includes work with gas turbines, renewables, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The engineer will contribute to the development of complete construction packages for power generation islands, supporting data center operations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop conceptual layouts, cost studies, and preliminary designs.
Apply advanced engineering methods to complex process and utility piping systems.
Produce estimate-worthy designs for material take-offs.
Identify critical piping systems.
Perform stress analysis, according to ASME B31.1 & B31.3 .
Develop piping material specifications.
Produce detailed sketches for in office designers and for construction support.
Assist drafting teams with layout and detailing issues.
Review vendor and interdisciplinary drawings for mechanical input.
Review fabrication drawings for conformance to engineered drawings and specifications.
Ensure designs are efficient, constructible, and meet client expectations.
Check calculations and designs for accuracy and compliance with code specifications and for conformance with good engineering standards.
Support scope development, procurement documentation, and the development of
equipment package & specifications.
Conduct fieldwork for data collection and construction support.
Provide technical guidance to junior staff.
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of design standards, codes, and piping specs & materials, particularly ASME B31.1 & B31.3
Proficiency in sizing piping systems, stress analysis, and valve selection.
Skilled in AutoCAD/Plant 3D, & Navisworks.
Experienced in the design of specialty piping systems, such as LNG, steam condensate, and other utility systems.
Knowledge of the need, application, and specification of safety valves and devices needed to maintain mechanical integrity of the piping systems.
Understanding of interdisciplinary coordination and EPC workflows.
Proficient in Microsoft products.
Soft Skills
Strong verbal and written communication, and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and in virtual, cross-function teams.
Willingness to be the Engineer of Record on projects.
Working knowledge of hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., AFT Fathom, and AFT Arrow PIPE-FLO).
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
Willing to travel for fieldwork and project support.
