TTS' Industrial Services Group is looking for a Mechanical Commissioning Lead to support the commissioning, startup, testing, and initial operation of a large-scale industrial processing facility. This position is ideal for a hands-on commissioning professional who has personally led field testing, startup execution, and system turnover activities from mechanical completion through operational readiness.
The successful candidate will possess extensive experience with process systems, rotating equipment, mechanical commissioning, startup planning, troubleshooting, and multidisciplinary coordination involving mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, and operations teams.
This role requires strong field leadership, technical decision-making abilities, and the capability to safely direct startup craft personnel while managing multiple commissioning activities simultaneously.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommissioning & Startup Execution- Lead commissioning and startup activities for assigned mechanical systems.
- Coordinate testing activities from component checkout through integrated system operation.
- Execute and document commissioning procedures, startup plans, test records, and data sheets.
- Support flushing, cleaning, drying, leak testing, and operational readiness activities.
- Perform equipment run-ins and testing for pumps, compressors, fans, diesel engines, turbines, and other rotating equipment.
- Participate in logic, interlock, permissive, trip, and functional testing activities.
- Support integrated plant startup and readiness efforts.
Planning & Technical Leadership- Develop detailed commissioning and startup execution plans.
- Identify prerequisites, interfaces, risks, contingency plans, and recovery strategies.
- Evaluate startup impacts related to construction delays, deficiencies, and equipment issues.
- Define temporary commissioning infrastructure requirements including:
- Temporary piping
- Hoses and jumpers
- Filtration systems
- Utility connections
- Chemical cleaning setups
- Specialized testing equipment
- Coordinate multidisciplinary activities across engineering, construction, vendors, and operations teams.
Field Leadership- Direct startup craft personnel during commissioning and testing activities.
- Provide technical guidance and field leadership during dynamic startup conditions.
- Monitor vendor technical advisors and support equipment commissioning activities.
- Participate in turnover walkdowns and punch-list resolution.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site procedures and industry standards.
Documentation & Turnover- Prepare deficiency reports, nonconformance reports, and field change documentation.
- Maintain commissioning records and turnover documentation.
- Manage commissioning spare parts and material requirements.
- Support construction-to-commissioning and commissioning-to-operations turnovers.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 4+ years of relevant experience, OR
- 8+ years of equivalent industrial commissioning/startup experience.
- Demonstrated experience commissioning and starting up complex industrial process facilities.
- Strong experience with large rotating equipment including:
- Centrifugal compressors
- Reciprocating compressors
- Multistage pumps
- Diesel engines
- Gas turbines
- Experience moving systems from mechanical completion through operational turnover.
- Ability to supervise startup craft personnel and field testing activities.
- Strong knowledge of commissioning procedures, startup methodology, and plant operations.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system interactions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, refining, power generation, or similar heavy industrial facilities.
- Knowledge of commissioning work processes and turnover management systems.
- Experience using construction and commissioning management software platforms.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage change in a fast-paced field environment.
- Experience developing detailed commissioning execution and contingency plans.
