QA/QC Inspector – Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced QA/QC Inspector with a current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential. This position is responsible for verifying that welding, fabrication, materials, and installation activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, applicable codes, and customer requirements.

The successful candidate will conduct inspections, review quality documentation, coordinate nondestructive examination activities, document nonconformances, and support the continuous improvement of the quality management system.

Key Responsibilities
Inspect welding and fabrication activities before, during, and after welding.
Verify compliance with applicable AWS, ASME, API, project, and customer requirements.
Confirm that welders and welding operators hold valid qualifications for the processes and positions being performed.
Review welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder performance qualification records (WPQ).
Verify base materials, welding consumables, joint preparation, fit-up, preheat, interpass temperatures, and post-weld requirements.
Perform visual inspection of welds and document inspection results.
Confirm material identification, traceability, storage, handling, and certification.
Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications, codes, and acceptance criteria.
Coordinate and review nondestructive examination activities, including MT, PT, UT, and RT.
Review NDE reports and verify that required examinations have been completed and accepted.
Monitor fabrication, assembly, dimensional inspection, coating, and installation activities as required.
Prepare inspection reports, turnover packages, quality records, and supporting documentation.
Identify, document, and track nonconforming conditions through corrective action and closure.
Issue and manage nonconformance reports (NCRs), punch-list items, and corrective action requests.
Witness hold points, tests, and inspections identified in approved inspection and test plans.
Participate in internal, customer, and third-party quality audits.
Communicate quality concerns to project management, engineering, production, and client representatives.
Promote compliance with company safety policies and stop work when unsafe or noncompliant conditions are observed.
Support root-cause investigations and quality-improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
High school diploma or equivalent; technical or associate degree preferred.
Minimum of three years of welding, fabrication, or quality-control inspection experience.
Working knowledge of applicable welding codes and standards, such as AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104, or project-specific requirements.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, weld maps, specifications, and welding symbols.
Knowledge of welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW.
Experience reviewing WPS, PQR, WPQ, material test reports, NDE reports, and quality dossiers.
Proficiency with standard inspection tools, including weld gauges, calipers, micrometers, temperature-indicating devices, and measuring equipment.
Strong written communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Ability to use Microsoft Office and electronic quality-management or reporting systems.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with production personnel, engineers, contractors, customers, and third-party inspectors.
Preferred Qualifications
ASNT Level II certification in VT, PT, MT, UT, or RT.
ICC Structural Steel and Bolting certification.
API 510, API 570, API 653, or NACE/AMPP coating-inspection certification.
Experience in structural steel, piping, pressure vessels, pipelines, petrochemical facilities, power generation, or industrial construction.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality-management systems.
Experience with source inspection, vendor surveillance, or field construction inspection.
Physical and Work Requirements
Ability to work in fabrication shops, construction sites, and industrial environments.
Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and access confined or elevated work areas.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and carry inspection equipment for extended periods.
Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, or travel as project requirements dictate.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
Must comply with site-specific safety, security, and substance-testing requirements.
