** Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is looking for an experienced GIS Technician to fill a three-year contract assignment in the Birmingham, AL area.

This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.

GIS Technician

Work Location: Birmingham, AL

Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred (Geography, GIS, or similar field), GIS Certificate, or at least 2 years of full-time GIS work experience is required.

Knowledge:
Power Distribution knowledge is a plus.
Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software required; experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro software is a plus.
Competency with standard computer software, to include Microsoft Office suite is required.
Ability to work in a team environment is required.
Experience with CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) is a plus.

Schedule:
Flexible working 40 hours per week, M-F, in an office environment in Birmingham, Alabama.
Shifts may be 8 or 10 hours per day, starting as early as 7am and ending as late as 5pm.

Note: Following an estimated training period of ~3 months in Birmingham, AL (duration may vary by individual), the role may transition to primarily remote work, with occasional in-office requirements for meetings, training, or other business needs.

Remote work requires stable broadband Internet connection of 20mb/s or capable of supporting remote desktop connections over VPN and is responsibility of worker, if remote work is offered in the future.

Additional Requirements:
Only candidates currently residing in the greater Birmingham Metro area will be considered.
Those willing to relocate will not be eligible.
Candidates must live within a 50-mile commute to the Birmingham office as per diem will not be provided for any on-site requirements.

Responsibilities:
Input, processing, and maintenance of Distribution Lines and Equipment assets in an ESRI GIS database.
