The Power Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, preparation and submittal of drawing packages based on customer specifications for switchgear / switchboard equipment and related products. Designs will include protective relaying, circuit breaker control, generator control, instrumentation, PLC control, AC / DC control power schematics, etc. The design includes modeling the power system using power modeling tools. The Engineer will also be responsible for review of technical specifications and drawings of electrical systems, interpretation of drawings and schematics, supporting electrical equipment troubleshooting, checkout, loop testing etc as required to support field techs. The Power Systems Engineer will be expected to be a subject matter expert and be able to guide/mentor junior level engineers on staff. Onsite commissioning of switchboard equipment may be required.
Interpret customer specifications and drawings as they apply to switchgear / switchboard equipment and related products
Prepare and submit a drawing package based upon the customer specification to obtain customer approval (designs shall include protective relaying, circuit breaker control, instrumentation, PLC control, AC / DC control power schemes, etc.)
Support Business Development with technical input and review into proposals for potential new business
Release and support this design (drawing package and bills of material (BOM)) based upon the customer returned documents for manufacturing this equipment (this will include device BOM, mechanical BOM, mechanical elevation drawing, panel layout drawing, electrical schematics, connection diagrams, wire list file, etc.)
Design control circuits for auto-transfer schemes based upon a customer specification and sequence of operation.
Interface with customers, sales and field installation services personnel.
Provide customer drawings, assembly drawings and bills of materials for the switchboard (structure, switches, over-current and other protective devices, bus, and instruments) based on product knowledge, knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and use of appropriate reference documents.
Select special devices to function as required in assemblies/circuits. Determine proper method for applying, installing and wiring special devices as required.
Revise standard and prepare new electrical schematics and connection diagrams.
Assist manufacturing department in solving problems related to mechanical assemblies, wiring diagrams or bills of material.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college (Masters level or higher preferred)
Experience with Low voltage and medium voltage solutions
Familiarity with Regulatory bodies such as ABS, USCG, DNV, NEC, etc.
Experience with the following products or their equivalents: Woodward EasyGen, Basler DECS 200/250 Automatic Voltage Regulator, Basler MVC-300 manual voltage regulator, Siemens, ABB, Cutler Hammer Circuit breakers
Experience with Power modeling tools such as PTW (Power Tools for Windows)
Knowledge of Bus bar schemes
Knowledge of mechanical layouts, clearances, sections, erection, grounding design etc.
Knowledge of protection schemes
Experience using AutoCad
5+ years of Power systems (shipboard preferred) experience Key
