NSC Staffing is seeking a HOT WORK COORDINATOR/WAF Coordinator for an exciting opportunity to manage and coordinate repair activities aboard navy vessels in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is ideal for experienced individuals with a strong background in maritime repair and knowledge of ship operating systems. Position Overview:
As a WAF Coordinator, you will oversee all repair activities aboard navy vessels and ensure they comply with NAVSEA guidelines. You will train repair personnel, manage work authorizations, ensure safety standards are met, and coordinate with various departments to ensure seamless execution of repair tasks. Your expertise in maritime systems and ability to navigate complex repair scenarios will be critical to the success of the projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Work Authorization Management: Review and develop work authorization forms for all repair activities, ensuring proper documentation and approvals are in place.
Training & Development: Train all repair activity personnel working on navy vessels and MHI. Submit the required training guides and reports to ensure all team members are well-prepared.
Log Management: Maintain daily logs during repair availability and provide copies to the Ships Force and repair departments for reference and coordination.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure all repair activities follow NAVSEA guidelines and maintain the safety of personnel and equipment at all times.
Scheduling & Coordination: Help schedule onboard work that impacts other systems or work, obtaining necessary approvals from Ships Force to prevent conflicts and ensure efficient execution.
System Tagout Management: Ensure that ship system tagout isolations are accurate, guiding Ships Force in developing system Tagouts to protect personnel and equipment.
Work Authorization & Tagouts: Ensure all required work authorizations and tagouts are completed and appropriately documented.
Compartment Closure Lists: Develop and submit compartment closure lists for each repair availability as needed.
MHI Subcontractor Coordination: Coordinate subcontractor and government AIT work to ensure smooth integration with ongoing repair tasks.
Qualifications & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Strong working knowledge of ship operating systems and how system repairs impact other ship functions.
Proven experience in the maritime industry and familiarity with maritime terminology and naval vessel systems.
Excellent judgment in determining whether system repairs can be completed without affecting other critical systems.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Previous experience in coordinating repair activities, work authorizations, and personnel training.
Work Environment:
This role involves working directly on navy vessels and maritime heavy industry environments. The position requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a proactive safety and repair coordination approach.
